Knowing that many consumers have always found the presence of a large, deep device cumbersome and undecorative, Samsung set itself the task of reducing each of the TV's disadvantages to form a whole that would blend in with the decor. The features listed below demonstrate this.
The frame TV includes a new kind of mounting system that literally "glues" the device to the wall. It's called "No Gap". Seen from the side, there are no wires, electrical outlets or fixtures to collect dust.
The screen offers a new kind of matte finish that reflects absolutely no light. has to be seen to be believed... Bravo Samsung!
Other unique features include the option of purchasing a wood or other finished surround, as well as a screen saver showing a painting or your personal photos as soon as someone enters the room, whereas it shuts down again as soon as you leave.
If you don't have any connectors or even an electrical socket on the back of your TV, you'll need to stick it to the wall. So here's another innovation: the "one Connect" box. This box lets you connect all your peripherals, such as a cable or fiber TV set-top box, Blu-ray player, game console and more. A thin wire connects the box, which can be up to 15 feet from the wall, making it easy to plug in all your wired connections, including the power supply! And that's not all! As the solar-powered remote control works with a radio signal, the box can be hidden in a cabinet with no problem at all!
Finally, the audio system disperses the sound across the screen, and to complete the camouflage of the TV, an optional finished deferential framing will make the device look like a real picture frame!
With so many innovative features, what's new for 2024?
Well, there's no stopping progress, and Samsung is going the extra mile to make its Frame THE must-have TV for 2024.
The Frame is now Pantone Colour-certified, for the truest image possible. The Pantone standard applies to printed media, making the reproduction of images offered in the art gallery 100% true to the original. Whether it's the flesh tones or the vivid colors of a great master's canvas, you'll always have a veracity beyond compare...
Until now, there were around twenty free representations to choose from for the frame mode, while you had to pay for the others. Starting in 2024, Samsung will offer paintings by great masters for free on a thirty-day rotation. If you want to keep it longer, you can still get it for a fee. The new free portfolio will feature no fewer than 2,500 works on rotation.
For technology enthusiasts, there will be the new "Samsung Daily Plus (+)". This Daily+ feature is a new Samsung TV user experience that brings entertainment, health and commerce together in one place. It's a unique open ecosystem for integrating non-multimedia third-party service providers, eliminating the need for several separate applications for telehealth, video calling, remote PC solutions or live shopping experiences.
Finally, as The Frame TVs are expected to run longer in frame mode, Samsung has reduced the picture refresh rate from 120 to 60 cycles per second. The 120 Hz, so necessary for fast-motion viewing, is totally unnecessary for still images, saving energy without any loss of performance.

The watchwords: relaxation, respite from busy days and simply escape!
We offer a short list of audio products available at BAX Audio Video. These products will be useful for soundproofing your home like never before.
Before you begin.
We'd like to share with you two higher-performing online music services. All service providers claim to offer high-fidelity, let's just say it's relative!
As we explained in a past blog, the secret lies in the transmission of music data called "losseless", i.e. without compression. Methods that actually offer this are called "FLAC" as well as "DSD"
The two services currently offering losseless music via Flac are called "Deezer" and "Qobuz" The others are far from assured...
Deezer offers the minimum in terms of lossless quality and is offered as an integral part of most network drives and receivers on the market.
As far as Qobuz is concerned, we are in another league while the service offers a majority of musical equipment in "Hirez" for a quality similar to the master tapes in the studios!
Stop by the in-store comparison listening, you won't want anything else, especially for less than $15 a month which is the same price as less efficient services. The only problem is that Qobuz is available in fewer North American devices, because it's too new to our market. Of course you can do "Casting" or casting via Chromecast, but there is a loss versus an integrated service. Two manufacturers offer Qobuz in their products offered at Sonxplus: Cambridge Audio and Sonos, with others to follow.
Yamaha RXV4: Base model.
The RXV4 features 5.2 sound reinforcement for full cinema listening.
This model, introduced in 2020, remains a safe bet, although the lack of a physical button on the front makes it less user-friendly.
With 80 watts on 5 amplified channels aided by 1 or 2 subwoofers, it will do the job well. The 4 HDMI inputs as well as the possibility of installing Musicast wireless speakers by Yamaha, will make it easy and convenient to use.
Denon AVR-X1800: A home run by Denon!
Here's a great value, as this model is packed with features for only $999.
The AVR-X1800 offers 7.2 channels with the possibility of Dolby Atmos sound reinforcement. You can assign a stereo output to a second amplified zone to provide sound to another room or ceiling speakers. The Audyssey system will allow a perfect calibration of your home theater with the help of a very explanatory and easy-to-follow TV interface.
Yamaha RXA4: A little further, a little higher!
The RXA4 offers an increased power of 7 times 110 Watts RMS. Versatile, it offers 7 HDMI inputs/3 outputs™ in 8K/60Hz, 4K/120Hz and HDR10+ for maximum visual performance transfer to your TV.
For Dolby Atmos, a pitch "virtualizer" simulates the sound from height, while for listening to music online, Yamaha's Musicast system allows you to listen to radio from all over the world!
The RXA4 is a massive device with a five-point suspension system for better stability. The "H Cross" chassis makes it even more rigid so that the vibrations of the part do not interfere with the rendering.
The software components are top-notch, such as a Sabre ES9007S chip for cinema audio decoding and management via Qualcomm QCS407. 4 year warranty.
Anthem MRX 740 8K: The Ultimate Made in Canada!
11.2-channel preamplified output, 7-channel A/V receiver amplified with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and IMAX "Enhanced". Continuous power of 140 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Includes CRA (Computer Room Correction). HDMI 2.1, HDCP 2.3 supporting 8K/60Hz or 4K/120H.
Everything is superior in terms of presentation, such as the stainless steel calibration microphone or the exclusive red circuit boards! A beautiful and very good Canadian product.
You can configure your amplified outputs as you wish, such as assigning a second zone or requesting a biamp for listening through very high-end speakers, because although Anthem's MRX series is dedicated to home theater, the components are likely to support true HIGH FIDELITY, which few manufacturers offer.
A word about the ARC Genesis integrated software.
ARC Genesis is the newest software that works with many ARC-enabled Anthem or Paradigm products. New features include support for Mac and Windows; new target curve adjustment options, including deep bass and high frequencies; an improved algorithm and much more.
ARC Genesis is backwards compatible with many ANTHEM and Paradigm products that are compatible with ARC or PBK (Paradigm Subwoofer Calibration). This third generation of Anthem Room Correction software represents a significant leap forward in room correction with the most comprehensive feature set to date. ARC Genesis transforms the audio performance of compatible speakers or electronics while maintaining the uniqueness of any room. This software allows you to completely neutralize the counter-effects of your listening room. In store, we'll demonstrate it to you, that's for sure!
Denon PMA-600NE: Small but versatile
The PMA-600 offers quality and power at a very good price
Yamaha RN1000: A network player combo receiver for audiophiles.
Yamaha embraces modernity with this amplifier for a musical space of pure bliss! The R-N1000A uses a 384 kHz/32-bit DAC ES9080Q SABRE chip from ESS to deliver superior signal-to-noise ratio performance. The higher the frame rate (384Khz), the more easily and flexibly the dynamic rendering is expressed.
Yes! The RN1000 integrates Qobuz that we told you about at the outset while Yamaha does not offer Qobuz in all its products. The integration of Qobuz is a guarantee of seriousness in "audiophile" hence our recommendation of this model in particular.
Paradigm is a Canadian company founded by Scott Bagby 41 years ago. The brand's reputation is worldwide.
3 series are offered:
Founder Series
The Founder series is the brand's newest offering. The hand-assembled components are flawless, the angular shape of the cases is fascinating and the sound is flawlessly very close to perfection.
There's even a hybrid model incorporating a 1000 Watt amplification that you calibrate by computer at home with the ARC software. We can write a volume on these sound boxes, just drop by the store and listen to them.
Affordable, this series is for the serious amateur who is looking for a fair sound without artifacts with solid bass and crisp, precise highs.
View Monitor SE products here!
The Premier Series has been designed through extensive scientific research. The scientific approach is the pride of Paradigm, because we are not guided by the sound preferences of the craftsmen, but by the results obtained in test chambers and comparison of the results by computer. A future article will explain the ins and outs of this approach...
SONOS: Wireless Multi-Room Solution
Come and see us, a significant part of the store is dedicated to the Sonos product offering wireless connectivity for your soundbars, ambient cinema speakers as well as stereo. A stand-alone amplifier, on the other hand, can be used as a source for a speaker system in your ceilings or outdoors.
Here is our first blog of 2024, a year that we hope will be enjoyable. For sure, if we put music in the comfort of our own home, we will have the best chance of having a good one!
So, happy new year and...

]]>Many electronics get off to a flying start, only to disappear. The list would be long, believe me! Not so for Paradigm and its three founders, Jerry VanderMarel, assisted by his brother Bill and Scott Bagby, who set out from the suburbs of Toronto with a concept that was new at the time. Create loudspeakers by first studying the science of acoustics, then perfecting them by listening to prototypes by music lovers.
The three founders Jerry and Bill VanderMarel, and Scott Bagby.
Today, this seems obvious, but back then, most manufacturers decided to give their products a particular flavor. Some companies sought to offer a grandiloquent, pompous sound, while others favored crystalline highs and so on.
In short, it was impossible to ensure that we heard the sound as it had been created in the studios by our artists. Jerry and Scott were convinced that the public would prefer a more neutral and realistic sound, and to achieve this, they had to ensure that the product offered neutrality in reproduction; the loudspeaker had to become almost invisible, reproducing only the sounds of the source without artifact.
1982
In 1982, the first Mississauga-built Paradigm 7 and 9 models were presented to a dozen retailers in the Greater Toronto Area.
Prototype Model 7
Scott was convinced that research was needed to succeed where others had failed, so he approached Dr. Floyd Toole of the National Research Council of Canada to participate in the advanced loudspeaker studies of the day...
The idea of consulting the detailed scientific results of audio studies conducted by NRC was already reflected in this product, and in a very short time, as early as 1985, after only 3 years of existence, Paradigm made its debut on the American market!
Jerry, with the help of his brother Bill, was in charge of marketing the brand. It was not uncommon to see "Bill" touring America with a pair of "9s" or "7s" and demonstrating them. Paradigm's first steps in the United States were the fruit of Bill's efforts with his younger brother Jerry.
1980-89
The remainder of the '80s laid the foundations for this unusual company. Rigidity was improved with a die-cast chassis to retain certain key parts. In 1988, the company also acquired an anechoic chamber for more precise testing and product refinement. Two production plants were in operation by the end of the decade!
First production Model 9.
1990-99
Paradigm began the decade by winning its first "Best Price/Value" award from the prestigious Inside Track magazine, back in 1990.
Although today's product range includes high-performance, high-end models, the company's aim has always been to offer high-fidelity at a very good price. It was in the early 90s that the Monitor model series was born, still in the catalog today, and renowned for its value for money. The first Monitor Atom models featured some of the best audio technology available today, including satin-finish anodized aluminum tweeter domes, powerful neodymium magnet structures cooled by ferromagnetic fluids, and a crossover circuit, all at a surprisingly reasonable price. Atom became Paradigm's number-one selling model.
First Atom model
Despite the encouraging success, Scott and Jerry weren't resting on their laurels. With their unique scientific approach having served them so well up to that point, the two pioneers decided to approach two of the engineers working for the NRC (National Research Council Canada) agency to found, with them, a new division. Fueled by passion, the PARC division - which stands for "Paradigm Advanced Research Center" - was launched in 1993 , and would become the place for software development and manufacturing techniques to analyze and correct products under development for low distortion, zero coloration and pure audio realism.
The use of a test room, a "must" for scientific results.
In 1996, the fruit of this research produced the first range of reference products. The "Reference Studio Series" was born.
In my opinion, the '96 Reference Studio range was the brand's first world-class product.
The first Studios 100 were impeccably finished in pale cherry, with massive feet for speaker stability. All components were manufactured on site, from the cabinetry to elements such as the cast aluminum salad bowl for better heat dissipation. A cascade construction of partitions isolating each element from the others ensured interference-free performance. While the standard format called for 8" drivers, Paradigm opted for 8?", achieving the same result, but with less distortion-generating stress. In short, we had a loudspeaker that combined power with purity of sound.
Studio 100 Gen 1
By the turn of the millennium, Paradigm was already recognized as a major player, offering standard components, amplified subwoofers (Subwoofer) and a new range of 4-season outdoor loudspeakers, the STYLUS. Paradigm had also acquired Sonic Frontiers , an audio company offering a product called Anthem , in 1998. Scott and Jerry now owned two household names in the Canadian and American audiophile community, PARADIGM and Anthem.
The turn of the millennium, international caliber.
2000-09
After 5 years of preparation, and now with impressive sales figures, Paradigm built one of the largest factories in North America in 2001, with a surface area of 225,000 square feet!!!!
Production plan No 1
Equipped with nothing less than the largest privately-owned anechoic chamber in the northern hemisphere, computer-controlled machinery, a finishing and paint shop and a state-of-the-art R&D department, innovations were introduced at a rapid pace.
Paradigm has taken full control of its manufacturing process, from planning, tooling and prototyping, through final packaging and finishing, to assembly of the spinning braids on the crossover circuit.
Let's digress for a moment to note that domestic speaker manufacturing is a rarity even today, as many reputable brands develop their products and then have them assembled in China. Examples are few and far between, but one French company offers similar products, but at several times the price of the Paradigm. There's no better value for money for both the amateur and the demanding audiophile...
List of Paradigm finds from 2000 to 2009.
2003 With the advent of the HTIB (Home Theater In a Box) home theater, which was an easy and inexpensive solution to home theater, people only had inexpensive products to buy to have a compact set, it was the buzz of the time. Paradigm then developed a compact set, the "Cinéma 70 CT", so that lovers of good sound could afford a high quality set that lived up to their expectations, and was easy to configure like those famous HTIBs sold in the big chains...
It was also in 2003 that Scott Bagby experienced his first disappointment when Jerry VanderMarel announced he was leaving the company. With no one to take over at the time, Scott was forced to join forces with an investment firm, Shoreview Industries. At this point, many industry observers had doubts about Paradigm's future as a market-leading manufacturer. As a rule, companies that come under investor control lose their souls, as investors are more motivated by monetary return than passion for the product.
It was also in 2003 that a third company, Martin Logan, fell under the Bagby/Shoreview alliance. Martin Logan, the Kansas-based manufacturer of electrostatic loudspeakers, was now under Canadian control.
2004 The Référence Studio series passed the torch to the brand's new flagship"signature"models. This series will feature Tweeters (treble) with Beryllium diaphragms. Beryllium is lighter and six times stronger than aluminum. It resists heat better than all light metals, making it ideal for the fine-tuned use required of a fine high-frequency driver. To prevent degradation, the high dome was anodized with a gold film... In fact, this award-winning series incorporated a score of avant-garde innovations too numerous to list here...5th generation reference studio. Can it get any better?
5th generation reference studio.
2007 PBK is born!? Ah! of course, explanations are required!!! The PBK is a software program for analyzing the subwoofer user's room, so that a correction can be applied to the subwoofer to obtain the reference output obtained in the PARC listening room (Paradigm research and development). This system has been perfected to this day for use in Anthem cinema receivers, Defiance subwoofers and the extraordinary Founder 120 hybrid...e...
2009 To round off the decade, speaking of Subwoofers... Take a seat! The 9000-watt Signature SUB2, yes, nine thousand watts! The world's most powerful subwoofer for home use. To obtain this output, it must be powered from a 220-volt outlet, but it can be used on 120 volts at a lower speed. Decidedly, this Canadian flagship ended 2000-10 with a bang! That's the way it should be!
2010-2019 the years of ultimate conquest.
For almost 15 years, Paradigm has been the company to beat for its competitors. Every category of loudspeaker product is represented. Indoor/outdoor, cinema application, wireless PA, all in different ranges from affordable to high-performance. Let's get on with it!
In 2012, Paradigm now offered 21 of the best-selling subwoofer models, from the compact Ultra Cube (one foot square) to the customized Seismic 110, which offered peak power of 1,700 watts. Right up to the largest of all subwoofers, the SUB 2 and the new SUB 1, with a combined total peak power of over 12,000 watts. Critics had called it a "military-grade" bass!!!!
Seismic 110 1700 watts in a compact format!
2014 Launches the "Prestige" range, a line of enhanced products with the performance sought by audiophiles at a fraction of the price of its competition. Not only did these products seduce with their perfect sonorities, but the quality of finish enhanced the décor in the home! We're talking black or white lacquered piano finish, or the ever-popular Midnight Cherry hand-polished finish!
Prestige Series 2014
2016 Came the Persona range, which rewrites history with a new level of technology and innovation, new materials and manufacturing techniques, new power and control, and a bold, colorful, avant-garde all-new look.
Here we are talking about Berylium used both in the treble horn and the midrange diaphragm. Only the best boxes in the world use this exotic material of great lightness and rigidity. The culmination of every Paradigm engineering objective, Persona has achieved near-total transparency, an unprecedented level of audio realism, with an appearance that makes an authentic statement of purpose-driven, organic design.
Even the hardest-to-please professional audiophile critics have been won over. A true jewel of harmonious form, it is now possible to place an order in the color or two-tone color combination of your choice. Not only does Paradigm offer us an exceptional product, but for a few hundred dollars more, the connoisseur can have a unique "Custom" piece.
Persona of great beauty, custom finish
In fact, the prestigious magazine "Soundstage" uses Persona as a reference in their tests of loudspeakers of all brands!
2018 If you're wondering now whether Paradigm has become the golden calf for the audiophile who can only adore it, being overpriced, you can be sure it hasn't. In 2018, the Atom Monitor SE won the award for loudspeaker product of the year.
Monitor Atom SE 2021
2019 The great return of the "Bagby
You'll recall that Scott Bagby, following the departure of second founder VanderMarel in 2003, sold his shares to Shoreview Industrie in 2005. He now held a minority stake in his own company. Scott had to make this sacrifice to keep his creation alive, as he couldn't find Canadian investors to join him, and his children weren't ready to join forces with their father. Passionate like few others, Scott in 2019, with the support of his son John, decided on a family partnership and bought the company back!
Today, John is General Manager of Paradigm, while his father is CEO. In addition to his titles, Scott will be found around the R&D department, as he's a product guy (a bit like the author of these lines!) I.e. people who are more focused on products than on the company's monetary success. And yet, those who seek to create the best products generally have the best chances of commercial success. That's what some observers feared when finance came to PARADIGM, that it would lose its creative soul, but they didn't know Scott's insight.
Anyone who knows Scott knows that he's a proud, determined perfectionist. He's back, by his own admission, to perfect his company's offering to the market, and it hasn't taken long...
Following the return of the founder and his son, the news burst forth!
2019 Launch of the Premier range, as Scott felt there was a gap in its product range. Consumers had to move from the entry-level Monitor to the high-end Prestige, and then make the leap to the very expensive Persona. The Premier range will therefore be between $1,100 and $2,700, and will offer superior performance to the Monitor, using technology derived from the Prestige and Persona models. Once again, there's too much innovation to go into here. I do, however, invite the reader to visit the Paradigm web page and find out all about it!
The founder's perfectionist philosophy doesn't always go well with commercial objectives, but the consumer will always come out a winner!
Which brings us to a new decade 2020+.
2021 In preparation since early 2020, not only due to the pandemic, but above all to founder Scott Bagby's obsession with the perfect product, the Founder series' worthy successor, Prestige, was finally delivered in April 2021 to the series' exclusive retailers.
The range Founder range offers the very best that today's technology has to offer. In fact, when listening to an excellent recording reproduced on high-quality equipment, we'll have the illusion, with our eyes closed, that we're in the presence of the musicians...
2023 Always improving their product range, Scot and John are literally on fire! Remember the "Premier", designed to offer a middle ground between the economical Monitor and the top-of-the-range Prestige? Well, the slot between the affordable "Defiance" subwoofers and the ultimate"SUB 1"series has just been filled with XR series subwoofers.
The all-new XR subwoofers are a master class in design and technical refinement that challenge what's possible from a compact, sealed subwoofer design. The XR11 features an 11" driver to do the job of a 10 with greater ease, resulting in sound without hiss or distortion. The same applies to the XR13 (13 vs. 12).
The finish is impeccable, including the famous "Midnight Cherry" high-gloss lacquer finish. The housing is heavily reinforced and the diaphragm is ART, with ribs that reduce distortion and increase capacity. The diaphragm is made of Carbon X to combine lightness and rigidity. The magnets and coils are MASSIVE! Power ratings are 2200 watts Peak for the XR11 and 4400 watts for the XR13!
Collector models Founder 41
Introduced just two years ago, the Founder series is a worldwide benchmark. To thank the community of premium-quality enthusiasts, Scott has decided to offer 3 limited-production finishes starting this fall. In keeping with the high-end automotive trend, the finishes will be matte, allowing a better view of the angular contours of this unusual soundbox. Satin shades will be offered in Ruby Red Frost,Azure Blue Frost and Winter Ice Grey. Although official prices have yet to be announced, a slight surcharge is to be expected, but nothing major.
The final word
So, Scott Bagby and his son John are back at the helm of the company. Scott, first and foremost a visionary, foresees great years of growth and development, and new technologies for his three brands (Paradigm, Anthem, Martin Logan).
As Scott indicated in a press conference, the audio market is once again at the forefront of human habits. With easy access to music via the Internet and the sale of very high-resolution files, listening levels are said to have increased by several hundred times compared with habits 7 years ago. The more affordable solutions there are, the more people will embrace this lifestyle, making music a key part of everyone's life.
Finally, we'd like to give you some statistics on this home-grown success!
Paradigm is the world's sixth-largest vendor, with a 27% market share.
Anthem is No. 1 for preamplifiers and cinema processors. No. 4 for receivers, with market shares of 30% and 31% respectively.
Martin Logan is in 10th place with a 15% market share.
Bagby's are here to stay!

TELEVISOR
Samsung's The Frame TVs have been available since 2017 and are enjoying undeniable popularity, and for good reason.
Firstly, the accessories included are brilliant. You get a totally flat mount on your wall, as well as feet for furniture installation. The remote control is self-recharging by ambient light. It comes with the "One Connect" box that lets you plug in all your peripherals as well as the power supply... Because you see, The Frame doesn't plug into the wall, it's the box that powers it via a very thin wire.
What more can I say than to mention the TOTALLY matte anti-reflective screen. If you take a flashlight and point it at the screen, you'll see only the brightness - nothing shimmers! Finally, this TV is called a "frame" because when you switch it off, a canvas image of your choice appears and the illusion is perfect - it's a frame!
Here's the latest TV technology on the market. Once again, we owe the invention to Samsung. So good, in fact, that Sony uses it in its best TV sets.
To fully understand the technologies themselves, we refer you to a blog written specifically for current OLED technology. In short, OLED offers the best contrast on the market, at the expense of brightness. Quantum Dot OLED technology solves the problem of other TVs offered on the market by competitors. With Samsung's QD OLED, images are clear, excessively well-cut and you can watch them in full clarity without losing a thing. Models in the S90 series are incredibly slim, from a quarter of an inch at the edges to 1.06 inches at the back of the TV. The S95 series, meanwhile, features the new second-generation QD-OLED matrix and a "One Connect" box for connecting all your peripherals outside the TV itself.
SONOS nothing less!
For the family or for yourself, enhance your moments with these wireless and Internet technological marvels.
The latest version of the Beam soundbar by Sonos offers balanced sound with sufficient bass to compensate for the amorphous sound of TV sets with their "mini" speakers.
High-tech
The sound is crisp and clean, and the possibility of reproducing Dolby Atmos frames makes the offer even more profitable. A 4-speaker midrange system plus 3 passive radiators for enhanced bass response and a treble, all controlled by a high-performance processor. Very fine musicality.
The "Move" master key operates both on domestic current and via its rechargeable battery. It's powerful enough to replace a "ONE" or the new "ERA100", but what's more, you can take it outdoors, as it's resistant to humidity and dust. And with Bluetooth technology, you'll never be without music, wherever you are!
ROAM IN PAIR
The tiny Roam is just the thing for taking your music everywhere with you. It weighs next to nothing and has plenty of power.
It's battery-powered, but by adding the charging base and induction power, it can run permanently indoors. LITTLE KNOWN, the update at the beginning of the year made it possible to use a stereo pair.
The sound is rich, with surprising bass for the size. Being so small, you can place them anywhere in a room for a left/right separation that will surprise you. Come and have a listen, and you'll be amazed and seduced by what this little thing can do. A joy for the ears!

]]>This product, with its Apple-like marketing techniques, is one of integral quality, whether in performance, durability or even packaging, everything is perfectly executed. Every year, major innovations are presented to the public, and this year is no exception. Sonos has embarked on an overhaul of its S2 platform, which stands out for its greatly increased capacity to support high-fidelity broadcasting, as well as its ability to reproduce the Dolby Atmos sound found in all good serious movies, as well as music as broadcast by Apple Music. Without further ado, let's get to the heart of the matter!
Sonos California office
A: Founded in 2002, Sonos was the brainchild of several players, including a former Apple executive in the U.S., as well as a number of visionaries, engineers and marketing specialists... The need, which the company decided to focus on, was to democratize and even facilitate the installation of an audio system worthy of the new era known as "Home Automation". Some companies, such as Control 4 to name but one, offered more expensive solutions, requiring a contractor's involvement in the equation. The other problem was the immobility of the sound systems of the time. They were big and bulky, and required numerous interconnections. In short, people were fed up with clutter and wires, hoping one day for the arrival of a wireless system, without the multitude of devices such as radio tuners, cassette recorders, record players, and so on. Sonos is the complete opposite.
Sonos offers a multitude of wireless speakers with Wi-Fi connectivity, enabling you to play music recorded on your portable devices such as smartphones, tablets and computers, in Android, IOS or Windows environments. What's more, Sonos offers access to millions of free music streams from the web on its Sonos Music network platform. For audiophiles, there are a host of paid services that can be added to the user's wallet, offering high-fidelity products such as QOBUZ, which has just arrived on the Canadian market.
The big news of the year, and frankly the most revolutionary, is the addition of two enhanced surround-sound interior speakers and a brand-new stereo-sounding exterior speaker. I'll explain each innovation and then tell you how it can be used for home cinema...
ERA 100 (2) Stereo disc player
The ERA 100 is the worthy replacement for the "ONE" model. It can be used on its own, and offers stereo sound thanks to the incorporation of two tweeters. Of course, if you want true, detailed stereo, you'll need two left and right units, but there's a gain in listening, especially as the system has greater transfer capacity for listening to high-resolution files. In addition to its musical use, it's even better suited to home theater, the models I recommend being the $349 "Ray" soundbar or the more musically efficient "Beam". The best "ARC" bar, however, will be better served with the ERA 300, but will still cope with the ERA 100. Newly offered is the possibility of having surround sound using your own speakers mated to the "AMP" network amplifier.
Sonos RAY affordable set
Technologies
Sonos ARC and ERA 300 Ultimate Package
The ERA 300 is totally new, and has been specifically designed for Dolby Atmos cinema sound reinforcement. Dolby Atmos is the feature that envelops the listener at 360 degrees for total immersion. Present in all good cinema systems, it is now possible with Sonos to reproduce sound coming from the front and rear, as well as from above our heads. To do this, you'll need the ARC bar.
or at least the "BEAM", offering simulated upward sound for the latter. All Sonxplus stores have them on display, including Chambly, which offers all the possibilities for listening. A new feature is the possibility of creating surround sound using your own speakers, coupled with the AMP network amplifier. The more powerful ERA 300 will be perfectly at home with the AMP, which offers 200 watts of power for concert-like surround sound at home. Surround music is currently available from Apple Music and Amazon Music.
The MOVE already had its fans, and the MOVE 2 doesn't offer anything revolutionary compared to its predecessor, but it's greatly improved. Sound is better, as is battery life. Discounts will be offered on remaining MOVE 1 stocks, to be continued...
Without being an audiophile product, Sonos products offer performance that can be described as high-fidelity, particularly in products introduced in the last 5 years. Two drivers are used, one for low and medium frequencies and one for high frequencies. Many portable speakers use only one, and it's noticeable!
Autocalibration is becoming widespread at Sonos.
A neutrally calibrated microphone picks up the sounds in the room and the Trueplay software analyzes them. Depending on the environment, whether indoors or outdoors, a real-time correction is made to obtain the richest, purest sound possible. It's scientific and technological.
Since we already have a microphone to enable analysis, we might as well take the opportunity to add voice control from Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant or even Siri. Simply ask to play music, check the news, control your smart home automation devices, and so on. If you already own Sonos products, you'll now be able to control them remotely!
Unlike other similar products based on Bluetooth transmission only, the new Sonos offers both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi via its own app-based listening platform. This means that at home, you can listen to your music on your computer or stream via the Sonos app. Your visiting friends can easily share their music via Bluetooth. The best of both worlds!
It's no surprise that these Apple alumni are integrating Siri functions with AirPlay 2. Use AirPlay 2 to stream sound directly from your iPhone, iPad or Mac to Sonos, and ask Siri to turn up the volume or skip a song.
There is no power on/off function on Sonos products, this is done automatically when you stop listening!
The final word
Scoop! Looking forward (very soon) to Sonos' new annual fall sale and holiday season. We invite you to stop by and listen to these technological masterpieces. Sonos products are impeccable and very reliable, as evidenced by the manufacturer's 2-year warranty. When it comes to compact home theater, there's no better product on the market today. Few compact products offer the level of high fidelity that Sonos does, allowing you to listen to movies AND music in high audio resolution.
For music listening, we suggest you use QOBUZ for its high-resolution discography, the SIRIUS XM service for uninterrupted music content advertised by musical style, and SONOS RADIO for free access.
Stay tuned.

]]>First, let's take a look at the heart of your audio system: music first, and in a second article, its cinema version. I refer to the audio amplifier.
Essentially, music follows a three-stage path. First, it appears via a source that takes a variety of forms. Whether digital via a network player, analog via radio waves or a turntable, sound materializes as a weak electrical signal. To make this signal audible, the loudspeakers have the task of vibrating the ambient air so that our ears perceive it. As the signal is very weak, an amplifier must be inserted into the distribution chain.
There are many different types of amplifiers available in a wide range of prices. It's important to establish our needs and expectations in order to guide our choices. As a preamble to a forthcoming article, we'll make a link with the other pillar of sound reproduction: the loudspeaker. Both elements must be chosen with each other in mind. Next, I'll introduce you to the Paradigm range of loudspeakers.
This type of device is sought after by the serious audiophile looking for power and precision. This type of amplifier only powers the speakers, and requires a preamplifier to select sources and adjust volume.
Integrated amplifier
An integrated amplifier is a device that lets you select the input source, adjust volume and tone. As opposed to a power amplifier, which does not allow selection or control, and requires the addition of a preamplifier. It's perfectly suited to people who want to take things step by step, and also to those who modify the various components of their audio chain over time.
Here, we're talking about an "all-in-one", because, as well as amplifying sound to the desired listening levels, it will enable you to listen to sources such as good old FM for radio receivers, or now, web radio in its Network version. What's more, network receivers will incorporate a DAC or "digital analog decoder" for listening to the famous FLAC and DSD files available for download on the market. This kind of product is becoming the norm for most audiophiles looking for a valid, easy-to-configure solution.
The compact network amplifier/player is a relative newcomer. This kind of device involves a built-in amplifier to enable the attachment of various peripherals (sometimes even turntables), but also incorporates a full suite of functionalities adapted to the digital world offered by webcasting. Calling on new design possibilities, it will be very compact and user-friendly, incorporating a large display and an application similar to that found with network players. It's the ultimate in fidelity and performance. Both high-end and entry-level versions are available.
What you need to know before investing...
Without going into too much detail, we should aim for a low distortion rate of less than 0.05% to ensure good listening realism. The second point is power, which for ambient listening should be at least 50 watts per left and right channel, i.e. 100 watts in total. For more dynamic listening, 200 watts or more are required.
Note that the more power you have at your disposal, the more you'll be able to avoid distortion in your listening, as the amplifier won't "force". It's a well-known fact that sound quality deteriorates rapidly when capacity is exceeded. What's more, an amplifier that isn't powerful enough for your needs could damage your speakers...
Many people believe that speakers need to be more powerful to stand up to abuse, but this is a mistake, because it's quite the opposite. An amp that's too powerful will provide a cleaner current that will cause the speakers to rattle when pushed a little too hard, so you'll hear it and turn down the volume. Conversely, an amplifier that isn't powerful enough by exceeding its capacity will supply a continuous current that will melt the speaker coils. You won't hear the extent of the damage, because direct current generates no sound... except when it's too late...
Entry-level models
For those who want to experience the richer listening experience of specialized sound equipment. An experience far beyond car or portable radios of any kind.
Not so long ago, there wasn't much of value in this category, but manufacturers have made the right decision to offer accomplished products at more than reasonable prices. The rational being to bring more fans into the audiophile family.
This minimalist device features a phono input for record players and AM/FM tuning.
Good value for money with solid terminal blocks for banana plug connectivity. Low distortion and ample power (2 x 55 watts).
Models for the serious hobbyist.
For those who want great sound at an affordable price.

]]>This technology is an improvement on the traditional LED. A television image is made up of millions of colored dots, but in the initial approach, called LED for Light Emitting Diode, each dot is made up of three basic color dots: red, green and blue. To see these coloured dots, there is a backlight behind each one, the intensity of which is reduced as needed via a filter that, like darkening glasses in the sun, reduces the passage of light. There are two problems or limitations with this principle: firstly, it's impossible to produce absolute black, as there will always be some light left, and secondly, this principle, with light coming from behind the dot, has its limits when it comes to image brilliance and color intensity. By way of comparison, the old Plasmas worked on the same principle of direct ignition.
The new approach uses self-illuminating points of light. Each point emits its own brightness close to the screen matrix. Since the dot can be turned off, the result is true blacks and full-tone colors. What's more, because the pixels are directly flush with the screen, there's less parasitic diffusion of brightness known as blooming. Blooming is when a white logo appears on a black background and you see light all around it, impairing contrast in everyday operation.
There are four main types of OLED display:
OLED is the basic principle, and is used in various TV applications, as well as in mobile devices, tablets and other display devices. It offers a fair image, but can sometimes lack brilliance.
AMOLED is a less energy-intensive version of OLED, used mainly in mobile devices. It differs in that, unlike traditional OLEDs, the pixels do not remain under continuous voltage. In OLED technology, pixels receive a signal to switch on or off, whereas AMOLED is directly switched on or off. This, unlike OLEDs which remain active off or active on until further notice, results in significant energy savings and absolute contrast. Traditional OLED uses the "passive matrix" principle, while AMOLED, which stands for "Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode", uses an active matrix.
Since OLED is less luminous than other principles such as QLED and conventional LEDs, this WOLED approach adds a fourth point of white light. As this Pixel can also be switched off at will, the absolute black quality of the matrix is maintained. In situations of extreme brightness, however, this principle can "wash out" colors by diluting tints to full tones.
QD-OLED is the latest development in OLED. Developed by Samsung, it is also used by Sony in its best TVs. With QD-OLED, two operating principles come together to achieve the best of both worlds! Like OLED, each dot is individually controlled and can therefore be switched off to achieve absolute contrast. However, each dot is made up of a triple blue OLED base which lights up quantum boxes, i.e. color converters that modify the hue to obtain perfectly calibrated greens or reds. The blue comes from the direct emission of the blue OLED base... The result is 100% color accuracy, since no white sub-pixel is needed, and superior brightness and brilliance, since no color filters are used. Colors are therefore more vivid and realistic than with WQLED. The purist, who seeks no compromise, will choose a model with this new technology.
As a result, I suggest sticking to these three majors, while the other brands that are mainly sold in supermarkets are still unproven in terms of performance, but especially in terms of reliability.
The Korean manufacturer has extensive experience in AMOLED technology, while most of its popular mobile devices are equipped with it. In its TV sets, it has been using the quantum box principle since 2017 in model boxes called QLED and NÉO-QLED. Now well mastered, quantum boxes are also used in the QD-OLED S90 and S95 series.
Samsung stands out from its competitors in terms of the speed of its reproduction capacity. It's the only one to offer a processor clocked at 144 Kz in game mode, versus 120 for the others. The image is crisp and high-contrast, in the absence of white pixels. There's never any jitter, whether in fast or very slow motion. Sound, especially in the 95 series, is clear, crisp and powerful.
The S90 series models feature the same panel as last year's S95, which is an excessively slim 1/8 inch! The section containing the electronics at the rear is quite compact compared to others.
As for the S95, this model features the new 2023 panel, even brighter and higher in contrast. The electronics are housed in an external box called "One connect", so there's no "bump" on the back of the TV, allowing it to be mounted completely flat on your wall.
Dolby Atmos sound is well reproduced in 4.2.2 70-watt R.M.S. configuration.
The only downside is that Samsung still doesn't incorporate Dolby Vision decoding for extreme contrasts, for which you'll have to turn to Sony. However, HDR10 support is available, which is already excellent.
Sony doesn't manufacture its own OLED panels, but rather uses panels from its competitors, but that's no fault, since signal management is a specialty of the Japanese manufacturer, which has extensive experience in cinematography via its Sony Entertainment division. Clearly, a good panel backed up by the best software will deliver stunning performance!
The entry series is called A80 and features a panel made by LG. It's a WOLED panel.
The difference comes from the XR cognitive processor, which adapts colors according to a pre-programmed chart of hues adapted to the human eye, so a correction is made to compensate for certain difficulties inherent in our vision!
The A80 uses the popular Google TV platform, an intelligent operating system, and the TV features an internal microphone for hands-free voice control. Other interesting features include an S-Center speaker input, which can turn the TV into a center speaker channel when a Sony soundbar is connected, and an ATSC 3.0 tuner for live streaming support up to 4 K. Sound emanates from the screen, which distributes sound evenly to you.
Sony takes an ecological approach both to manufacturing, with the use of recycled plastics, and to energy consumption.
Sony's standard-bearer this year is its A95 series, which makes the most of Samsung's second-generation QD-OLED panel.
The QD-OLED panel delivers the best results at present, with optimum luminance and contrast reproduction, and is perfectly suited to Dolby Vision coding, recognized as the most powerful to date.
The casing is slim, but not too slim, allowing the back of the camera to be mounted flat on the wall, an important aesthetic consideration. An extraordinary innovation from Sony, the Bravia Cam is a versatile camera that analyzes your viewing position in the room and adjusts the optimal image rendering as required. This function also calibrates sound according to room configuration. The Bravia Cam is easily deactivated for those who see this as a problem...
For furniture mounting, the TV's feet are minimalist, barely visible.
The only downside here is that the processor, which acts very smoothly in fast motion, sometimes induces a slight hopping sound in very slow motion.
When it comes to possible adjustments, the Sony A95 allows for extra adjustments versus the competition, allowing you to adjust the performance of this outstanding screen 100% professionally... Sony's A95 televisions have unquestionably been the best of recent years. Their outstanding picture quality, advanced intelligent features and elegant design set them apart. This series has made a name for itself over the years, winning numerous awards in reviews of the best TVs of the year.
Lg is the forerunner of OLED, having introduced it in 2013.
Two series attract our attention: the C3 and G3, while the B1 is only available in supermarkets and offers old technology that performs poorly...
LG's OLED TVs all use WOLED panels
C3 The all-round model.
This year, C3 OLED pixels shine brighter than ever before, thanks to the light control algorithm and other improvements driven by the α 9 Gen6 AI 4 K processor. The increased use of white pixels gives a further impression of clarity. Like Sony, Dolby vision is included, although the panel performs less well than one using QD-OLED. The LG C3 is visibly lacking in image brilliance compared to its rivals. For gaming, response is lightning-fast, with a response time of 0.1 milliseconds thanks to the on-board NVIDIA G-Sync processor.
The C3 is an excellent TV for watching the latest blockbusters. Like all OLEDs, the C3 offers incredible contrast, with deep inky blacks. It also offers excellent smoothing of low-quality content and very good upscaling of low resolutions. So, whether you like to watch movies on legacy formats like DVD or via 4K streaming services like Netflix, your content will always be crisp without too much pixelation grain. However, the TV isn't very color-faithful; while most viewers won't notice this, if you're particularly attentive to color accuracy, it will annoy you.
G3 LG's best offer yet.
The LG G3 OLED is an exceptional TV with no real weaknesses. Its excellent brightness in SDR and HDR makes it ideal for watching TV shows or classic movies in SDR. In fact, LG promises 70% more brilliance than its C3 series thanks to the use of "MLA" (Micro Lens Array) lenses, essentially microscopic magnifying glasses that focus light for greater intensity. As the OLED principle is sensitive to marking, this solution avoids overheating the pixels by activating them too intensely for greater brilliance. This approach delivers extreme luminance beyond that of QD-OLD, but with less accurate rendering in bright colors...
Please note that the G3 series does not incorporate a mounting foot, but only a wall-mounting kit.
The downside of LG OLEDs is the aggressive brightness correction system in the room, which is sometimes annoying because the image is so bright. To be deactivated.
The last word.
3 manufacturers with three different approaches, that's the dilemma! Clearly, Lg is finally improving its panels with the G3 MLA, a TV that performs well with increased brightness. Samsung definitely offers the best Gamer experience with a processor speed of 144 Kz. QD-OLED technology is the way of the future, so much so that Sony also uses it in its best TVs. Speed and fluidity in all circumstances are Samsung's great strengths. When it comes to reproduction quality for the purist, Sony's A95 series wins first place hands down. The secret lies in its Dolby Vision and HDR+ capability, combined with infinite possibilities for adjustments by the Cognitive processor, which adapts the image to the human eye. Certainly the most expensive, but more than candy, as the saying goes! Let me start by saying: are you in love with television?
Good viewing and as always,

]]>Whether you want to listen attentively, relax or energize, headphones need to be well suited to the purpose.
What's more, it's a good idea to know about the various new technologies for 2023 that are aimed at cinema or online gaming enthusiasts. As you'd expect, different types of music also imply different styles: the hip-hop enthusiast will require robust bass elements without overpowering the vocals, while the jazz lover will be looking for balance and fine detail.
To help you make the most informed purchasing decision possible, here's a list of new and innovative features from specialist manufacturers.
Speaking of sound, the JBL Tour One M2 is ready for slightly accentuated bass and treble, which I think is well suited to the function. What's more, with the JBL Headphones app, you can customize the overall sound to your liking. More bass or treble as well as a control over the mids lets you choose the exact frequency you want to equalize. As far as low frequencies are concerned, it's pretty impressive, coming down to around 40 Hz. There are a number of functions available via the app, including Spatial Sound, which amplifies certain higher mid-range frequencies and makes voices more audible. But the spatial aspect also works for a surround effect to be used to taste. Noise suppression is highly effective in suppressing continuous noise. The AmbientAware function is also very useful when you're out and about, and can be set to different levels via the app, allowing you to hear a little of what's going on around you.
JBL TUNE 750BTNC
For pure JBL bass sound
For over 75 years, JBL has been creating accurate, impressive sound (see my previous article). These headphones reproduce the same JBL sound, producing deep, powerful bass. The JBL TUNE 750BTNC wireless headphones feature powerful "JBL Pure Bass" sound and active noise cancellation for punchy bass and an immersive audio experience. The lightweight on-ear design offers maximum comfort and sound quality, as it surrounds your ear and effectively blocks outgoing or incoming sound so you don't disturb anyone! Up to 15 hours of battery life, which recharges in just 2 hours, enables wireless playback. Keep on listening to your music indefinitely, thanks to the detachable audio cable included, so you can keep on listening when you're not charging...
SONY WH-XB910N
Sony offers incredibly rich, deep sound with EXTRA BASS(TM).
The WH-XB910N noise-isolating earphones enhance all low frequencies to deliver exceptional bass. The special bass duct in the earphone housing and the improved air-tightness between the transducers and the eardrums help make rhythms precise and punchy - in other words, the bass is clean, dry and strong! These wireless headphones also preserve vocal clarity, for an extraordinary audio experience perfect for hip-hop.
NEW DSSE TECHNOLOGY for even more punch! Compressed tracks are restored to their full values, even if you're listening to poor MP-3, as Sony's algorithms restore all the original dynamism thanks to artificial intelligence!
JBL QUANTUM 810
Two innovative technologies!
The JBL QuantumSPHERE 360 and the JBL QuantumSURROUND, which has taken a quantum leap forward by using a head-tracking sensor to fix sounds in 360 degrees of space, outperform conventional headphones: when you move your head, the soundscape follows your movement. But with JBL QuantumSPHERE 360, if you turn your head, the perceived location of the sound source remains in place, because the head-tracking sensor compensates for your head movement. For example, if a sound comes from in front of you and you turn your head to the left, the perceived location of the sound source moves towards your right ear. The sound remains blocked in space when you move your head. What's more, the human brain uses small head movements to distinguish whether sound sources are behind or in front of us. The brain processes the differences between when a sound reaches the left and right ear to determine where the sound is located. So, with JBL QuantumSPHERE 360, you can move your head naturally to identify the exact source of sounds around you. Simply unbeatable... just like you!
JBL QUANTUM 610
*JBL QuantumSPHERE 360 is only available with the JBL QuantumONE gaming headset. The first thing you'll notice is that the sound no longer feels like it's "in your head". Suddenly, it seems as if the game sound is coming from high-quality speakers or from the virtual game world all around you.
JBL QuantumSURROUND, meanwhile, offers hyper-precise spatialization that can give you a competitive edge. For example, sounds from distant sources will seem further away, just as they would in real life.
Choose the model that's right for you at your nearest SONXPLUS!
Technology has come a long way since the 2000s! In the past, we had to turn up the sound to hearing-damaging levels to hear everything properly. Nowadays, everything is crystal-clear, with good bass and no need to strain your eardrums! What's more, some are water- and sweat-resistant for an active lifestyle.
With its futuristic approach, the WF-L900 features a circular transducer (doughnut-shaped driver) that allows outside sounds to reach your ear without preventing you from hearing everything in your music.
Weighing just four grams and extremely small, the WF-L900 is a marvel of miniaturization. Unlike conventional earpieces, the speaker diaphragm protection is integrated into the housing to save space.
An impressive list of features such as touch control, Alexa and Googles voice commands, increased clarity of phone conversations in hands-free mode on headset and much more.
It will be introduced at the end of August 2023, and is truly innovative, with its portable charging case including a display screen for adjusting sound characteristics, as well as determining at a glance the remaining autonomy of the battery pack and earphone, both separately!
If you're on the move, it incorporates 6 microphones to cancel out the noise around you and ensure your caller understands exactly what you're saying.
Something to watch out for!
SENNHEISER MOMENTUM True Wireless 3

SONY MDR-1AM2
Ideal for action films, it offers an increased dynamic range...
***However, this model is wired
The sound is of very good quality and fairly neutral apart from the bass region, which has a big boost (+6dB reference). Sparkling detail abounds in the midrange, with clear, contrasting notes defining the MDR-1AM2. Fidelity appears almost impeccable here, giving the impression of truly fleshy mids. It's worth noting that the midrange and treble provide the spatial definition so important in cinema.
Comfort is typically Sony excellent.
SONY MDR-Z1R
High-quality Z1R flagship headphones.
For pure sound, this headphone features a HUGE 70 mm HD diaphragm.
The newly designed magnesium dome diaphragm with liquid crystal polymer enables high-resolution audio playback of up to 120 kHz. The result is unparalleled sonic purity and precision.
This approach dates back to the turn of the millennium, when manufacturers of quality loudspeakers and headphones created items that greatly exceeded human acuity, which is limited to a bandwidth of 20 to 20,000 hertz. The rationale behind this is to grant overcapacity, which guarantees perfection right in the middle of the range allowed by the product. In other words, if you reproduce high frequencies at 16,000 Hz cycles, and your headphones, as shown here, allow up to 120,000 cycles, there will be no difficulty in execution.
This deluxe product incorporates a quality hard carrying case and silver-plated oxygen-free copper wires for long-term stability.
The 70 mm magnesium dome diaphragm with aluminum-coated liquid crystal polymer offers enhanced precision, propagating vibrations generated from the voice coil to the dome section, and enabling sound reproduction in the supra-high frequency range. The combination of various high-loss materials ensures reduced coloration and clear sound. In short, it's pure with no tunneling or entanglement. We call it very clean.
YAMAHA NEW YH5000SE BLACK
There's nothing newer on the market than these headphones, produced in the Yamaha Kakegawa factory in Japan, which manufactures flagship grand pianos and exceptional audio components. Everything is handcrafted.
What's more, this exceptional high-performance product is the only one, along with the HP-1 from the mid-1970s, to have been marketed by the brand ever since! Original research and development in 2016 means 7 years, which is why it's so good!
The YH-5000SE is an open-back design. It carefully manages pressure around the drive unit through the use of Dutch-weave stainless steel filters, and controls directivity with a special shape inside the earcup. The earpiece housing is made of lightweight magnesium, while the rest of the headphone structure uses a mix of steel, ABS, leather and aluminum. The result is a surprisingly light pair of headphones weighing just 320g. Add this low weight to the combination of a wide leather headband, large, lightly padded ear cushions and carefully judged clamping pressure, and you have one of the most comfortable pair of headphones available.
Includes a choice of sheepskin or synthetic suede-style Ultrasuede Mc earpieces for better heat and moisture rejection.
A product likely to become a collector's item.
The AH-D5200 headphones feature FreeEdge 50 mm drivers made in Japan. Constructed from materials chosen for their rigidity and low mass, FreeEdge drivers minimize unwanted resonances in the diaphragm to deliver detailed, accurate sound. The drivers are mounted on vibration-reducing resin baffles. These flexible, compliant materials allow the diaphragms to move more easily in response to the musical signal, without flexing or distortion, for the purest possible sound.
They're very comfortable with minimal side pressure, a soft leather ear cushion and 3D memory foam, the 5200 offers a universal fit to wear comfortably for extended periods. The look is superb with natural wood shells, no plastic for natural resonance!
Two-wire connectivity is included, as well as a 3.5 mm and 6.3 mm plug for all types of equipment.
Today's televisions use only digital transport to transmit sound out of the device. In the past, this was done analogically, so the majority of today's headphones connect digitally either via a dedicated 2.4 megahertz frequency band or via Bluetooth. If you don't have the latest TVs, you'll need a suitable model. (they are rarer)
Sony WH-RF400Connected analogically to the TV or cable decoder, it offers 20 hours of autonomy and an operating distance of 150 feet.
This model is an improvement on the Sony.

To protect your outdoor TV from the elements, you can also install a protective cover for the TV when not in use.
To extend the life of your outdoor TV, you can clean the screen with a soft cloth and warm water.
In summary, after reading this article, you know all about outdoor TV and how to turn your deck into a relaxing space for everyone.

]]>Choosing the right projector can make a big difference in your viewing experience. Here's everything you need to know about choosing the right projector for your needs.
The first thing to consider when choosing a projector is how you will use it. Different types of projectors are optimized for different tasks, so it is important to choose one that is designed for your specific needs.
If you're looking for a projector for your home theater, it's best to go with a model optimized for this type of use. Home theater projectors are designed to produce high-quality images with accurate colors and deep blacks. They are generally quieter than other types of projectors, which puts the emphasis on sound quality.
Gaming projectors are designed with low input lag and fast refresh rates such as 120 Hz, which is important for a smooth gaming experience. They also tend to be brighter than home theater projectors, which is important if you're gaming in a room with lots of ambient light. Epson's new Home Theater Series 3LCD 4K Projector, Model 2350, is the perfect example with its 20ms latency and exceptional color quality. It even allows us to broadcast
If you're looking for a projector for presentations, you need one that is bright enough to be used in a well-lit room. It should also be easy to set up and use, and compatible with the devices you will be using for your presentations.
Once you have determined the type of projector you need, there are several factors to consider when choosing a specific model.
One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a projector is brightness. The brightness of a projector is measured in lumens. If you are using your projector in a room with a lot of ambient light, you should choose a projector with a high lumen count.
The resolution of a projector is the number of pixels it can display. The higher the resolution, the sharper and more detailed the image. If you use your projector for movies or games, you'll need to choose a high-resolution projector.
The projection distance is the distance between the projector and the screen. It is important to consider this when choosing a projector because it determines the size of the image. If you have a small room, you should choose a projector with a short throw distance such as the Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS800 laser projector which can be positioned up to 17.3" from the wall for a 100 inch image. If you have more space, you should choose a projector with a longer projection distance, such as the Pro Cinema 4050, which, depending on the size of the image you want, requires between 58'' and 498'' of distance.
You need to choose a projector that is compatible with the devices you'll be using, whether it's a laptop, game console or streaming device. Some of the most common connectivity options include HDMI, VGA, USB and wireless.
When choosing a projector, you'll need to understand what lumens and contrast ratio are. Here's what you need to know about each of these terms.
Lumens measure the brightness of a projector. The higher the lumen count, the brighter the projector. For a home theater projector, the lumen count should be at least 1,500, while for a presentation projector, the lumen count should be 2,500 minimum.
The contrast ratio measures the difference between the darkest and lightest parts of an image. The higher the contrast ratio, the more detail you can see in the image. For a home theater projector, the contrast ratio should be at least 2,000:1, while for a presentation projector, it should be at least 5,000:1.
Projectors offer a variety of resolution options, including HD, 4K, and more. Here's what you need to know about each of these options.
HD projectors have a resolution of 1920x1080, which matches most HDTVs. They produce sharp, detailed images and are a good choice for movies and games.
The 4K projectors have a resolution of 3840x2160, which is four times the HD resolution. They produce incredibly sharp and detailed images and are a good choice for mid-range home theater installations.
When choosing a projector, it is important to consider the connectivity options available. Here are some of the most common connectivity options.
HDMI is the most common connectivity option for projectors. It allows you to connect your projector to a wide variety of devices, including laptops, game consoles and streaming devices.
VGA is an older connectivity option that is still commonly used. It allows you to connect your projector to a wide variety of devices, including older laptops and desktops.
USB connectivity allows you to connect your projector to several types of devices, including flash drives and external hard drives. This feature is useful if you want to play media files directly from a storage device.
Some projectors also have wireless connectivity options, which allow you to connect to your projector via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
Epson is a well known brand that produces a wide variety of projectors. They are known for their high quality images and reliable performance.
Sony is a high-end brand that produces projectors for home theater. They are known for their incredibly sharp and detailed images, as well as their high contrast ratio.
The Samsung projectors are designed to meet the needs of both personal and professional users. Samsung uses advanced imaging technology to ensure that its projectors deliver crisp, clear images that are true to life. Whether you're watching a movie or giving a presentation, you can be sure that the images displayed on a Samsung projector will be of the highest quality. Another key feature of Samsung projectors is their energy efficiency. Samsung has implemented innovative technologies in its projectors to ensure that they consume less energy without compromising performance.
Once you've chosen your projector, you may want to consider getting the necessary accessories to enhance your viewing experience.
A screen offers a better visual experience than projecting onto a wall. Screens are available in a wide variety of sizes and materials, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your space.
A stand allows you to securely mount your projector to the ceiling or wall. This is important if you want to ensure that your projector is stable and won't get knocked over.
You will need cables to connect your projector to your devices. Make sure you have the right cables for your specific installation.
Choosing a projector can be a daunting task, but by considering the factors discussed in this guide, you will be well on your way to finding your projector.
Whether you are looking for a home theater projector, a projector for video games or a projector for presentations, there is one that will meet your needs and exceed your expectations. Ask our in-store advisors for advice and they will help you make the best choice for you.

]]>This guide will explain the benefits of OLED technology and help you decide if it's the right option for your home entertainment setup. If you're looking for an unbeatable viewing experience, OLED technology is a great choice.
OLED technology offers several advantages over traditional LCD and LED displays. In an LCD/LED display, a backlight is used to produce light, which can make the image look washed out or dull. OLEDs do not need a backlight because each pixel produces its own light. OLEDs produce light from organic materials rather than from a backlight, which means they are thinner and lighter than LCDs making them perfect for wall displays.
OLEDs also produce brighter, more vivid images with deeper black levels and wider viewing angles. OLEDs also have a faster response time than LCDs, resulting in smoother action scenes and less motion blur. For these reasons, OLEDs are often considered the best choice for home entertainment systems.
Finally, OLEDs are more energy efficient than LCDs, consuming less power and helping to reduce your electricity bill.
OLED technology is based on the principle of electroluminescence, which is the phenomenon whereby a material emits light when an electric current is applied to it. OLEDs use a thin film of organic materials that emit light when an electric current is applied. This organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology is used in displays to create an image on a screen. Each pixel of an OLED display emits its own light and can be turned on or off individually.
OLED displays are made up of several layers. The first layer is the substrate, which is the base of the display. This layer is usually made of glass or plastic and provides the structural support for the display. The second layer is the emitter layer, which is made of organic materials that emit light when an electric current is applied. The third layer is the anode, which is responsible for carrying the electric current. Finally, the cathode layer is in charge of evacuating the electric current from the screen.
When choosing an OLED TV, there are several factors to consider:
Once you have an OLED TV, there are several tips you can follow to get the most out of it.
The first is to make sure the TV is properly calibrated. This will ensure that the colors and brightness levels are accurate and that the picture is as clear and vivid as possible. You need to make sure you are using the appropriate settings for the type of content you are watching, as different settings may give better results for movies or sports.
Another tip is to make sure your TV is connected to a good sound system. OLED TVs usually have built-in speakers, but they may not be powerful enough to produce good sound. A good audio system will make the viewing experience more immersive and enjoyable.
Finally, you should consider investing in a TV stand or wall mount to keep your TV off the floor and maintain a better viewing angle.
In short, this technology allows for better picture quality because it allows for deeper blacks, more vibrant colors and higher contrast. OLED TVs also have wider viewing angles than traditional LCD TVs, which means that images remain sharp and clear even if you're not directly in front of the screen.
OLED TVs are generally considered one of the best choices for movie and video game enthusiasts due to their outstanding picture quality. However, they are generally more expensive than LCD TVs, which can be a factor to consider when purchasing.

]]>First, it's good to know that while there are fewer manufacturers of connected bars, Sonos and Denon offer a solid reputation as world leaders in electronics. This ensures you get reliable, long-lasting products that will benefit from continuous OTA (over the Internet) updates that keep your investment up to date with what will be selling in stores in the years following your purchase.
Three models are offered: two from Sonos and one from Denon for the current year.
Sonos offers the "Beam" while Denon offers the "Sound bar 550", two equivalent formulas. For the demanding amateur, the very famous "ARC" with its 11 amplifiers (each driving a speaker), will provide power and precision.
All three units are designed to be configured to the user's taste and budget, offering a subwoofer as well as a choice of rear speakers of various sizes and performance options.
Dolby Atmos is the latest cinema encoding that maps sound to achieve a three-dimensional effect. With 3D, you feel like you're right there with the sound of rain falling on you or the sound of a plane flying overhead! The best products offer this and the models suggested here are no exception.
Choosing Denon or Sonos means opting for the infinite prospect of music sources for every room in the house. It will be possible to bring together TV, record player and web music projected through stand-alone speakers or via a conventional stereo system. There are even people who integrate these sets with the distribution in ceilings and walls because connected amplification devices are available from our two manufacturers (AMP and HÉOS).
To get the most out of your connected product, the application is essential and allows you to do the following:
To learn more about surround possibilities in general, I would refer you to a previous article entitled "Technologies: How to find your way around". Let's now look at the three models I evaluated:
The second-generation Beam is an accomplished product. First offered in 2017, it features a compact package including four mid and low frequency drivers as well as a treble to be driven by 5 dedicated amplifiers. The sound is crisp and clean, significantly improved over the first generation.
You can control the Beam by voice using Google Assistant or Alexa, depending on your preference. This comes in handy when you're searching for music content by genre or artist: ask and you shall receive!
To make listening more enjoyable in movie theaters, a voice enhancement feature is available, as well as a night mode to enhance sound effects at low volumes. In either case, if you need to reduce the overall volume, your Beam will enhance what's less audible without altering the overall level, which is perfect for avoiding disturbance.
Possibility of adding the Sonos SUB subwoofer and ONE rear speakers with or without voice commands.
Here, we add the high musical resolution because the Denon products are all compatible with the musical files with high flow such as FLAC 24 bits - 192 kHz as well as DSD 2.8/5.6 MHz.
To distribute the whole, an ingenious configuration of 4 midrange and bass speakers coupled with 2 passive radiators and 2 tweeters ensure authentic high fidelity.
To control your Bar 550, you can choose between Alexa, your mobile device app or the backlit motion-sensing touch controls, but also a good old "joystick" included with it!
To access content, we will connect it via 2 HDMI ports or fiber optics. For the musical listening, we will be able to diffuse from numerous source including even a USB plug allowing the listening of your personal library of high resolution FLAC or DSD pieces.
Finally DENON offers, in addition to a host of stand-alone speakers from their "Home" series, traditional audio system amplifiers that offer to transfer even more content that can be picked up from your turntable for example.
The Sonos ARC has a reputation for sought-after performance. It's ideal for large TVs 55" and larger. It's beautiful, slim and powerful with a clarity of sound that's uniquely its own. Whether you're listening to music or watching a movie, what's most striking is how "airy" and easily audible everything sounds, no closed-in sound here...
The stereo soundstage seems larger than the bar itself, thanks to the side speakers that reflect sound from the walls back to the listener. Focusing is also very good, and you can easily identify where the sounding objects in the soundstage are coming from. Listening to a rock concert is so fascinating that you feel like you're there...
However, on the "minus" side, we note that all this clarity will be to the detriment of the bass, which fortunately can be compensated by the addition of the wireless "SUB" box. In this "ARC + SUB" configuration, we will obtain the most "musical" bar ever. Add rear speakers to perfect its immersive 3D Atmos cinema performance and get the best of both worlds: cinema and audiophile!
Plus, you can link music services through the Sonos app, play them right out of the box, and access a variety of features including setting a morning alarm! The Sonos app also lets you configure the performance in your room by analyzing it via built-in microphones. Unfortunately, this feature is only available on Apple iOS, and not on Android.
Although Sonos cannot reproduce signals encoded in very high resolution DSD, it is now possible to play FLAC encoded in 24 bits for a richer resolution in nuances. To do so, the user will have to use the new S2 application replacing the initial S1 version.
On the cinema side, all types of content are covered: Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Digital Plus, Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby PCM multi-channel, etc.
In this final word, let me summarize well.
If you want an all-in-one system without the need to buy a subwoofer, the Beam or the DENON 550 are the ones to choose.
For total versatility in music content, the 550 will take precedence over the BEAM. If you want a traditional remote control, the 550 is the one to choose, as the other two are only controlled by application.
In each case, a bass speaker and rear speakers can be added for surround sound effects.
The top of the tops will be the "ARC" but to really enjoy it, you will have to add the "SUB" because it remains deficient in bass but what a sound!
By the way, I invite you to read my 4 articles including this one to find the ideal type of sound bar for you. Lhe last two years have seen an increase in television sales and manufacturers have chosen to focus on this complementary product. We are in an era of quality and performance and a sound bar is now a must have addition to modern performance TV's.
Stay tuned!
]]>In this article, I will share with you the technologies offered.
]]>In this article, I will share with you the technologies offered.
Many soundbars work with a separate subwoofer, which may be included in the package or available as an option. Since a soundbar is still quite compact, bass performance will be compromised without it.
In most cases, the subwoofer will be wirelessly connected for easy placement.
For a smaller footprint, some soundbars offer a small built-in subwoofer in slightly larger units.
These will offer an acceptable sound. In this particular case, I strongly advise you to listen to them before buying, because techniques are evolving rapidly in the field of small format reproduction. Some will surprise you while others, less evolved, will not be worth the trouble.
More recently, we've seen bars with an "ultra thin" design. The ultra slim design is felt to fit perfectly on a wall mounted TV: you fix it to the wall and there goes the clutter! Adding a subwoofer is a must here...
As an ambience creation, the bare minimum will be stereophony with added depth effects. This approach is in the realm of cheap bars and offers the same thing as your TV but louder. We'll call it 2.0 sound.
To get a better performance, especially for the voice track, we will talk about a 3.0 type sound which will consist in adding a third speaker in the middle of your bar to reproduce only the dialogues.
If either of the above includes a subwoofer, a "1" is added to its designation, i.e. 2.1 or 3.1 sound.
It will offer a rear-to-front ambience via rear sound boxes for the 5.1 and a rear and side combination for the 7.1. You will have the choice between virtual or organic simulated effects. For virtual effects, the use of reverb on walls and ceilings will be the norm, while for an organic feel, the use of additional rear and side boxes will be required. Certainly, the realism offered by the extra speakers will be preferable despite their clutter.
- The soundtracks of this type include "Dolby digital" or "DTS Digital Surround".
These are the bars that offer three-dimensional sound (Dolby Atmos or DTS: X), meaning that the sound comes from both the sides and the top. Vertical speakers are usually integrated into the sound bar and use the ceiling to reflect the sound back to the viewer. The best sets, such as the Samsung HW-Q990B, will feature true back boxes with upward-firing components. The vertical component will be identified by a third number. For example, a 7.1.4 system such as the Samsung 990 will have four vertical channels.
There are three ways to produce surround sound:
1- Virtual surround sound
This technique uses a digital interpretation circuit to create a resonance that gives the illusion of sound going around you. The degree of immersion experienced will depend on the effectiveness of this audio processing but will be limited in any case. A busy environment will be detrimental to the result.
2- Virtual surround by reflection
This will consist of speakers placed at different angles in the cabinet as well as, for the more sophisticated, speakers aimed at your ceiling. They use the walls or the ceiling (for a 3D surround) to reflect the sound and give an enveloping sound. Since this time the sound is real, coming from real speakers, you will have a superior immersion performance.
3- True surround sound
If you're looking for a truly immersive sound experience, you'll want to choose a model that includes a set of rear speakers. As with a full-size home theater system, having true 3D rear speakers aimed at the ceiling will provide maximum realism.
To realize the superiority of this approach and as an example, imagine a total silence while an airplane in the distance, in the background, approaches, only the rear speakers work on a real system, this work is impossible to achieve with a bar that uses the walls to recreate the rear field, even less achievable with a virtual effect, because in both cases, the rear sound will be generated by the front speakers...
It's interesting to know that many manufacturers offer optional rear speakers for their more affordable packages. So you can get "true surround sound" without having to buy the ultimate sets. The cost of this addition ranges from $200 to $350.
The power: it is expressed in watts, the more the better because let's be honest, when we watch a movie, we don't want to listen to lullabies!
200 watts would be a good start, ideally 400 watts including a value of 150 for a subwoofer would be preferable.
There is no magic number, but the more of them you have, the more certain you are to get well defined effects.
Three types of elements are proposed such as the "woofer" for the low frequencies, the "mid" for the medium frequencies such as voices and the "tweeter" for the high frequencies which is critical for the production of the sound field and the musical rendering.
Some models offer the possibility via a mobile application to access streaming music services. Thus, the best sound bars will turn into a competent sound system. Not silly when you think about it, because the TV, except for the rooms dedicated to this purpose, is often placed in a rest area of the household. In this case, pay attention to the features that affect the musicality of the set, including the use of high-level tweeter and the ability to play audio files of flac, dsd and other variants known for their realism and absence of losses (lossless).
It is important to know the type of audio encoding for the widest choice of listening. There are encodings dedicated to cinema use and others for music listening.
Dolby encoding
DTS encoding
Encoding:
There are several ways to connect your sound bar to the TV. In the past, we used an RCA-type cable that only allowed stereophony with simulated ambience at best.
Subsequently, digital processing has allowed the transfer of the signal via fiber optic or S/PDIF and this remains the way to do it for both new and old TVs. The audio quality is excellent. It is possible to transmit multichannel sound, but the number of compatible formats is lower [no Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master Audio and so on].
However, with the advent of more and more devices connected via an HDMI cable [TV set-top box, game console, Blu-Ray player, Chromecast, etc.] the industry has developed a new bidirectional transmission protocol allowing the exchange of information in the transmission chain opening the door to an even more accurate performance. This protocol is called "eARC" and allows the transmission of all high-resolution formats. Also appreciated is the possibility of controlling the volume with a single remote control, that of the television set.
If you're lucky enough to have a TV that's 5 years old or younger, you'll probably be able to connect one of the new bars via Bluetooth. With Bluetooth, you'll get top-notch performance for everyday cinema listening. The high-flying cinema enthusiast will prefer HDMI cabling or the latest development, I call it WI-Fi connectivity! The two-way transmission speed of WI-Fi allows for precision and real-time audio patching. WI-FI also allows the transport of streaming music [Spotify Deezer and others] as well as voice control offered by Google and Alexa in particular.
In all of the products offered, there are great advances in aesthetics. The use of various shapes according to a squared or round theme as well as the addition of real fabrics will allow your acquisition to better blend into your decor.
Here are the basics to find your way around. There is something for everyone! Absolutely!
Stay tuned!
We tell you more below. Let's get started!
After introducing the neural XR processor last year, Sony has taken the optimal use of the powerful AI machine that is the XR by storm. With smaller backlight LEDs, Sony will now be able to tackle details such as optimised contrast.
Not unlike Samsung's mini QLED, this approach remains a guarantee of success in the quest for the most realistic images...
The XR cognitive processor seeks to adapt the image to the perception of the human eye. With more realistic colours, the better-defined contrast brings us to an immersive, almost cathartic experience in front of the work observed.
To achieve this feat, a by-product of the BRAVIA XR called 'BMD' for XR Backlight Master Drive is used. This process continuously analyses the scenes produced to offer a backlight better adapted to the different areas of the screen. The presence of several LEDs in the mini version allows for an appreciable gain in this respect.
The suite of features offered to achieve enveloping sound is not revolutionary but it does the job so well. The sound powered by speakers placed behind the screen allows you to become one with the action.
The Acoustic Multi-Audio Experience gives you crisp sound with accurate character dialogue propelled from the screen. The realism of the voices will always make the difference between an unconvincing experience or a cinema-like feeling of presence. Sony gets an excellent score here.
Another approach from Sony (the champion of acronyms) is 360 Spatial Sound Mapping, a process that uses artificial intelligence to give you the right sound regardless of where you are in the room or what furniture you have, in exchange for the purchase of a sound bar or compact cinema set.
Finally, the Acoustic Center Sync will use the TV's speakers as a hub for the brand's soundbar sets.
*For some models, consult a qualified advisor.
The cognitive XR processor, together with the Google TV platform (Android TV) and the new Bravia Cam with its built-in microphone, monitors your environment to constantly adjust the TV's performance. Whether you're sitting in the middle, on the left or on the floor, the Bravia XR TV detects this and adjusts the sound and screen performance accordingly. Thanks to motion detection technology, you don't even need a remote control, you just raise your hand and a virtual control will act according to the movement of your hand!
Of course, the more traditional among us will state their commands verbally in the form of "OK Google turn it up" but where will progress end?
Another benefit of the automated monitoring is the Netflix fine calibration function via a built-in sensor that will adjust the brightness according to the ambient lighting and the clarity of the projected scene.
For gaming enthusiasts, the XR AI will detect what you are doing with your TV and adjust the response time according to the game you are playing.
With 4K resolution and 120Hz cycling, fast motion blur is a thing of the past. In addition, using the mini-del on the best models will give you better defined game images.
For 2022 and beyond, Sony will use the BRAVIA CAM camera to adjust screen brightness according to ambient lighting to save wasted energy. Among the initiatives that could make a difference, a new material called "SORPLAS" made from recycled plastic will be used to build the chassis of its TVs. The use of SORPLAS alone will reduce the footprint of plastic on our environment by 60%...
The Z9K series is the pinnacle of technology available in 2022. It combines 8K reproduction with the use of the XR cognitive processor mini LED and the BRAVIA CAM with artificial intelligence. 8K will definitely be the future. Its rollout has been delayed by the pandemic but expect to see more and more video equipment on the market. At the moment, you can watch 8K on YouTube. In Japan, 8K has been commonplace for almost 4 years!
Here we get the same technologies as on the award-winning Z9K but in 4K. Like many of the Japanese brand's other high-end models and series, the synergistic use of Sony soundbars is built into the XR cognitive processor. The mini LED ensures near perfect contrast.
The entry-level XR designation preserves the main quality with the cognitive processor and live panel backlighting. The popular formats will be represented in 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches. Excellent price-performance ratio.
First use of the new principle QD-OLED. QD-OLED is the technology that stole the show at 2022. The image is almost 3D-realistic with a brilliance never achieved by regular OLED... QD-OLED is the marriage of Quantum Dot technology and OLED organic diode display. A marriage made in heaven!
Available in small 48" and 42" sizes, the 90K is part of Sony's Master Series. For the ultimate gaming monitor or to treat yourself to the best of the best in a space-saving format, this TV is for the purist in you!
The 80 series is back. It remains by far the most sought after by OLED enthusiasts.
This year, it will be possible to enhance its performance by adding (like all the above models) the BRAVIA CAM*.
Definitely one of the most impressive images for the price.
*BRAVIA CAM: included with Z9K and A95K series, optional accessory available on all other series.
Sony remains a leader in an ever-changing world. This year, it is notable that only the best of Sony's expertise is being marketed. There are no cheap and outdated products here and I think it's a great idea! When you are called Sony, there will be no worse decision than to try and compete with the many low-end players on the market. The name Sony is synonymous with excellence, the decision to preserve its value is well informed. 2021 and now 2022 will go down in history as having been great years for the brand.
Enjoy the 2022 TV season.
On the image side, the big news is the 14-bit processor that allows for greater gradation accuracy. This is particularly noticeable on snowy landscapes or ice rinks, where more detail and texture is now visible. The quality of the colour variants of the image is also enhanced. To illustrate the progress made, by switching from 12-bit to 14-bit contrast control, we have gone from 4096 shades to 16,300...
Physically speaking, the Neo-QLED 2022 will use the rimless chassis borrowed from the 8K 2021. This is very appealing, as in addition to being very thin, the rimless image seems to float in the air!
The number of active loudspeakers behind the screen has been further increased with the addition of elements directed towards the ceiling. The aim is to achieve a three-dimensional effect similar to Atmos cinema.
Also on the sound side, the OTS+ system is making progress with the interpretation of the positioning of voices and faces on the screen. Thanks to the OTS+ (Object Tracking System), people who speak from the right to the left of the screen will have sound coming from the left to the right behind your screen. So much for increased realism.
New for almost 3 years, the Q-Symphony system is getting even better with the WI-FI link. No more need for an HDMI cable to connect the sound bar to the TV. Remember that the Q-Symphony system allows you to use certain TV speakers in synergy with the Samsung sound bar to create a unique atmosphere. Unlike previous years, all of the TV's rear speakers will now be used, including the top speakers for even more detail and realism!
Gamers will not be left behind this year as the image will be processed at a speed of 144 kHz. Also, a new control bar will be available to make fine adjustments to performance on both latency and various aspects of image rendering. Although not official at the time of writing, there will now be 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs suitable for gaming as well as an E-Arc input.
Did you know Gamers that from now on the online gaming platforms: GFORCE NOW, GOOGLE STADIA and UTOMIK with 1300 new games every week worldwide, will be integrated into QLED TVs!
Finally, the surround will be perforated metal and, DRUM ROLL: a motorised mount that allows the display to be oriented vertically will be available. As a reference, let's remember THE SERO TV which incorporates this feature suitable for viewing mobile device content.
THE FRAME, THE SERO, THE SERIF all with the new matte screen...The big news that surprised many was the new matte matrix with no, but really no reflection.
Whether you look at it from all angles or from the front two inches from your nose, there are no reflections, full stop!
The three Samsung lifestyle TVs are perfect for introducing this technology, as they not only allow for TV viewing, but also serve as a decorative feature in the home.
It was launched in 2017 and makes up a large proportion of Samsung's current TV sales. The 2022 'Frame' is slimmer and incorporates everything you need to mount it on the wall in the box. Depending on your décor, you can choose a frame with a variety of colours and/or wood finishes.
New for 2022 will be a decorative item called "MY SHELF".
The glare-free matte screen is particularly striking on those models that project artwork. The absence of reflections gives a three-dimensional quality to the projected works. Have you ever seen a painting reflected in the room? Have you not? Well, you've got it, it's fabulous!
Finally, it can be attached to the optional rotating vertical frame mount.
Launched in 2020, the Serif had not seen any improvements last year. This year, a complete redesign was completed at the Korean manufacturer.
The Serif is the most decorative of them all, unlike The Frame which tries to get lost in the scenery camouflaged as a frame, the Serif has a solid white frame in Canada and is self-supporting thanks to a set of 4 legs included in the box. At first glance, one in laughter, four legslike in the old days???
I can assure you that the look is really chic!
The new matte screen is wonderful when the TV is idle and broadcasting in ambient mode.
As a reminder, Samsung's ambience mode is a mode of broadcasting fixed or repetitive motion content of varying geometric shapes in particular, to offer relaxation to the viewer at rest. Images of fireplaces, rainy or snowy days as well as the main news headlines on the screen are part of the catalogue offered by the device.
Very attractive product!
The SERO returns to us mostly unchanged except of course for the Samsung matte screen. Already, this TV is more than perfect for active people who embrace the latest technology.
It swivels on a freestanding base to view the contents of your mobile phone. If you have an Android device, it will automatically do this by simply rotating your cell phone in your hands! The sound system is 60 watts R.M.S. so it's got a great bass and the optional low-cost wheels allow you to move it around easily!
Of course, the gaming mode has also been improved, just like on the Neo-QLED...
For those looking for a medium format (43''), it does everything!
Introduced 3 years ago and available free of charge on TVs 5 years old or younger, the Samsung TV Plus content service offers free streaming or subscription to users. Among the selections offered are CBC and French Radio-Canada. Great value!
Samsung has set out to become the world leader in soundbars and 2022 will be the culmination of this. The perfect sound bar now exists.
Firstly, with the various high-performance models, you get rid of the HDMI wire, regardless of the quality of the soundtrack. From stereo 2.0 to Atmos 11.1.4, everything is transferred via the Wi-Fi link. 100% of the encoding is transferred from your TV, from a Blu-ray player, or from broadcasters such as Netflix or even from an advanced gaming console.
The new Q-Symphony bars use in-ceiling speakers as well as the new ones that are included with the Samsung 2022 QLED TV.
Some models even incorporate intelligent listening circuitry that corrects distortion for a clearer, more orchestral sound. The S800B is only 1.6 inches deep, but features full Atmos sound with ceiling-mounted speakers and a compact, colour-matched subwoofer that comes in white or black.
Interestingly, the visual of the subwoofer has been softened to allow for seamless integration with your décor.
It's very early in its commercialisation but Samsung has presented us with a prototype pre-productionquality to demonstrate what is coming soon.
In simple terms, this new technology combines two operating principles and the result is breathtaking...
OLED technology with active dots that allow the intensity of each dot to be modulated. The advantage of this principle offered by Sony and LG in particular is that contrast control is perfect with the possibility of completely switching off the image areas for absolute black.
QLED Technology derived from LED backlighting, but with blue LED as a background. In front of this blue LED are the quantum boxes that filter the light to obtain 100% of the colourimetry available in cinema. This results in a very natural image with a much higher intensity than OLEDs. In addition, QLED screens get a lifetime warranty against marking, which is a guarantee of durability. The downside of this technology is that it is impossible to completely turn off the dots, which makes it more difficult to achieve deep black.
Without giving all the technical information of the QD-OLED let's just say that the burning of matrix screen will be a thing of the past and that contrary to the OLED images which are certainly very rich, but darker, the QD-OLED image will be more intense, coming closer to the natural vision...
To be continued!
For 3 years now, Samsung has been accelerating rapidly in terms of design research and development. I can only applaud their foresight. Staying #1 is never easy and by developing at "Lucky Luke" speed (faster than the speed of light!), Samsung is ensuring that this leadership will continue.
]]>Samsung has been marketing The Terrace, an outdoor TV, for a few years now in two series.
]]>Outdoor TV's have become increasingly popular in recent years. We are building outside to make the most of the warm weather and we are complementing our terrace with a TV model that can withstand the harsh climate.
Samsung has been marketing The Terrace, an outdoor TV, for a few years now in two series:
- LST7TAFXZA Series: Weather and moisture resistant
- LST9TAFXZC Series: In addition to being weatherproof and moisture resistant, this series has protection from direct sunlight.
Other players are also added for different models: Sunbrite TV and Neptune are not to be overlooked.
Before considering the picture and sound performance, it is important to make sure that this TV can be left outdoors. To get a fair idea of its resistance, the Terrace is certified IP55 which means Protection Index 5 + 5.
The first "5" means that the case will resist dust and microscopic residues, and over time, the internal components will not be damaged.
The second '5'. is about resistance to water ingress. Standard number 5 specifies that not only does rain not affect the product, even a jet of water from a distance of 2 to 3 metres will not penetrate!
IP55 Standard Resistant to indirect water jet.
You can be sure that nothing will affect this TV and with a wide operating temperature range (minus 31 to plus 50 degrees Celsius) you can find a place for it outdoors all year round! Now you can have your own personal drive-in movie at home!
Whether it's any form of sport, including motorsport, you need a screen that reacts fast! The MR240's speed of execution allows you to follow fast movements without any residual image trails. The ultra-black screen, on the other hand, gives you rich, high-contrast images.
Having a nice QLED picture is good, however it's useless if you can't see it...
That's why Samsung has incorporated a highly effective anti-reflective coating on THE TERRACE as well as a 2000 NITS brightness. The ultra-black screen with anti-reflection and screen brightness allows you to watch your TV in daylight, and that's not all! An intelligent sensor analyses the ambient light and reduces the brightness to automatically adjust. Celebrate at dinner and continue your evening by watching the fireworks broadcast after dark! Terrifically loud!!!
In addition, the matrix is of the "direct lighting" type, i.e. the pixels are illuminated directly behind as opposed to from the side. The more direct, the better the performance.
OK, the TV is weatherproof and performs well, what more could you want?
To get the most out of your new purchase, Samsung has pulled out all the stops in terms of connectivity. Never before have we seen so many possibilities, and what about HDBASE-T (point No. 7)
1 - Classic aerialsocket and the possibility of connecting a cable set-top box. Nothing revolutionary except that the connection compartment is closed, sealed and can only be opened with a screwdriver.
2 - Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection allowing you to connect to the network to watch YouTube, Netflix and a multitude of other web applications.
3 - Samsung TV More is a free television service available to everyone. You can watch a huge amount of channels usually available on cable without paying a cent. YES! even CBC English and French is included!
4 - Airplay2 for Apple fans. You can easily connect to stream content from your iPhone or a visitor's iPhone
5 - Split screen Multiview allowing two sources to be viewed simultaneously on the screen. No quibbling, a show on one side, and Gaming on the other!
6 - Tap View or the ability to mirror your mobile device by simply touching the top of your Terrace to make the connection.
7 - HDBASE-T Receiver it will be possible to link all your devices, be it a set-top box, Blu-ray player, computer, game console and so on through ONE WIRE! This feature is unique, because through an Ethernet wire, you can link an HDBASE-T transmitter to which your devices are connected in one simple and unique connection. When it comes to the quality of the transfer, there are no limitations as 4K resolution is ensured with its premium audio frame.
55" solution in CONDO!
THE TERRACE TV offers the full range of integration with connected objects.
1 - Full control via voice command Bixby. Use your included stainless steel remote control, and give your commands. The execution will be perfect and without delay.
2 — Alexa and google assistant integrated. Search the web, request information, control your devices remotely, your imagination will be the only limit to the possible applications of these assistants. As the remote control is your point of entry, there is no privacy problem, as it is not active when at rest. All SAMSUNG TVs are voice-activated.
3 - Smarththings from Samsung, turns your mobile device into a Wi-Fi remote control. If you are within range of your Wi-Fi network, you can control your TV from anywhere! It is also possible to watch your TV show on your smartphone screen! No interruption if you have to leave the front of the TV, your guests will continue to follow the show and so will you... remotely!
4 — SmartHub All your connected devices such as thermostats, garage door dimmers and others, will be displayed on a control screen integrated in the Terrace. You're in the yard, unlock the door for your kids as they arrive without taking your eyes off the screen! The applications are once again limitless... Menu listing of your connected devices
5 — One Remote. The stainless steel remote control, sealed (IP56) against water and dust damage, integrates the operation of your TV-related devices. For example, if you connect a Bell decoder, the menu will automatically be downloaded from Samsung's servers and your remote control will operate it seamlessly. No more multiple remote control puzzles.
6 - DLNA. DLNA integration allows you to install many applications, including those of major video-on-demand services such as Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Rakuten TV, Twitch and many others. DLNA technology is also standard on connected outdoor TVs so that you can enjoy the multimedia content on your computer directly on your THE TERRACE screen. And as the world of computing continues to evolve, you'll always be ready to enjoy the latest findings or service offerings connected via your laptop or conventional computer.
With its built-in 20 watt audio system, you'll hear everything within a reasonable distance of the TV. The frequency response is full and the sound is fair with crystal clear highs and fairly well reproduced bass. However the 20 watts will have its limits.
There was no way to give you a TV with enough sound for every occasion, so Samsung has introduced its outdoor sound bar, the Terrace HW-LST70T.
With 210 watts, a built-in subwoofer and a centre channel subwoofer, you get a great sound. It's IP55 weatherproof, the same rating as the TV. To achieve a pleasing and well-defined sound, harmonic distortion analysis circuitry 'listens' to the performance of the speakers and proactively and continuously corrects the sound output. Turn up the sound to the max without worrying, the artificial intelligence will take care of the rest!
But that's not all! When you're not using the HW-LS70T as a sound bar, it will serve as a continuous outdoor ambient speaker. You should have thought of that!
Of course, Alexa and Google Assistant services are included, just say: Alexa, play me Jazz, and off you go! Your smart Ambiance sound bar.
*** As a premium product, when it comes to wall installation, there will be no worries as the fixing kit is included in the box.
In short, with a waterproof design that is resistant to weather, dust, extreme temperatures and UV light, outdoor TV's are designed to be placed outdoors, by the pool or even in a wet room. With high brightness and an anti-glare screen, these TVs maintain excellent picture quality even in daylight.
For a better experience, I strongly suggest that you consider purchasing the recommended sound bar for this series. TERRACE TVs are available in three sizes 55-65-75 inches and a protective cover is available. Why a cover if the TV is weatherproof? Simple, it is not stain proof!!!

The genius in this concept lies in the automation of the focus and keystone adjustment which always creates a clear, rectangular shaped image every time you move it.
]]>To the best of my knowledge! To start this series of reports, I will tell you about Samsung, the world leader in TVs and connected devices. It's going to be a long story, but it's going to be good to the last drop!
Everyone in our community is already talking about it, here is the amazing Samsung: THE FREESTYLE.
When I was a child, my parents gave me an intriguing toy, a small battery-operated projector that I had to turn the crank to animate little films on my bedroom wall with Mickey the mouse and other little guys! In short, a toy suitable for "grown-ups" is now offered by Samsung.
The Freestyle is a hundred inch projector that can be turned in any direction. Whether on a wall, ceiling or table. It is portable, as it can be equipped with a battery.
The genius in this concept lies in the automation of the focus and keystone adjustment which always creates a clear, rectangular shaped image every time you move it.
For fun, it can be "screwed" in place of a light bulb and will be powered by household current, allowing you to project movies or reading material on your kitchen table, for example! Want to use it as a decorative lamp? No problem, as a diffuser filter can be attached to create a subdued atmosphere. Finally, it can be used as a Bluetooth speaker, as it has a very powerful audio system for its small size.
The freestyle will be gradually available on the market from March 2022.
The introductory retail price will be $1149.99. Pre-orders will be available soon
]]>In addition to the format, other characteristics should be taken into account such as image resolution, refresh rate, dynamic range etc.
With the start of the Olympics, which will be followed by the US Super Bowl, there will be plenty of viewing time available, especially with the first broadcast of the games in 8K resolution. China Media Group (CMG), China's dominant state-owned media, has just announced the launch of CCTV-8K, an 8K TV channel8K format TV channelsee s upcoming 2022 Olympics in Beijing, so no doubt there will be clips available here on streaming platforms like YouTube and so on.s Olympic Games, so no doubt there will be clips offered here by streaming platforms like YouTube and Co. then...
Follow the guide.
There are many myths about this, but you should know that brightness does not give you a headache and that your eyesight does not deteriorate from staring at a screen too closely. The real reason for distance is a matter of comfort and immersion in the viewing experience. In the past, we had to be further away from our screens because the image was inaccurate and our eyes and brains would get tired trying to focus our eyes. To understand what is happening, look at your hand for a minute and suddenly look away: there will be a delay before you clearly grasp the distant visual. Your eyes will have adjusted. If your screen is blurry, your eyes will be constantly trying to adapt, causing fatigue. Since the introduction of high-definition (HD) television sets in 2005, this problem no longer exists.
With the difficulty of focusing gone, what remains is the desirable immersion in the image. In other words, if you are too close you will not see the whole picture and if you are too far away or the screen is too small, you will no longer have the impression that you are part of the action.
When measuring a TV screen, the measurement should be taken diagonally, not width or height. The size of a television refers to its diagonal length, which is derived from measuring from the top left corner of the television screen to the bottom right corner. Most screen sizes are expressed in inches.
Depending on the resolution of your screen, the distance required will vary. In this respect, there has been real progress. For reference, a 55-inch screen used to require a viewing distance of 13.75 feet, whereas a 4K resolution screen will now require a viewing distance of only 5.5 feet!
There are different resolution levels, but only 4K and 8K are currently available with very little full HD and only in small formats. Demonstration of the amount of visual information depending on the resolution.
The SD for "Standard Definition" has between 480 by 525 lines of pixels on broadcast to 750 by 576 on DVD. This format is discontinuous, think tube TVs...
The HD and Full HD: the former comes in 720 by 1280 dots or pixels while the latter offers 1080 by 1920 pixels. Most of the material offered by traditional cable services falls into this category.
The 4K offers almost 4000 horizontal lines or 2160 by 3840 pixels/line. This is the most common format. It can be found on some cable channels and on all digital platforms such as Netflix, Disney, Amazon, YouTube, etc.
The 8K now available for 3 years offers the best in realism and will be featured during the Beijing 2022 games. 4320 by 7680 pixels will form a screen with more than 33 billion dots!
Old Ratio: SD
We aim for 3.5 to 4 times the diagonal.
32 inches recommended distance of 9 feet.
55 inches recommended distance of about 14 feet.
Intermediate ratio Full HD
For the better-defined HD, 1.5 to 2 times the diagonal is the best choice.
32 inches recommended distance of 5 feet.
55 inches recommended distance of about 7 feet.
Samsung NeoQLED 98 inch TV
These super TVs offer a performance that approaches natural vision, the ratio required is greatly reduced. That's why we add to the minimum viewing distances, an approximate distance at which you start to distinguish individual pixels or points so that you can enjoy a more immersive experience without viewing distance restrictions and look closer without noticing individual pixels. As you will see in the following table, you can get really close to a 4K or 8K TV before you have a real degradation of the experience.
Ideal distance: 8.5 feet for maximum immersion.
Maximum distance for satisfactory immersion: 13.4 feet.
Close range without seeing the pixels: 4.9 feet for 4K and 2.5 feet for 8K.
Ideal distance: 7.5 feet for maximum immersion.
Maximum distance for satisfactory immersion: 11.8 feet.
Close range without seeing the pixels: 4.4 feet for 4K and 2.2 feet for 8K.
Ideal distance: 6.5 feet for maximum immersion.
Maximum distance for satisfactory immersion: 10.2 feet.
Close range without seeing the pixels: 3.8 feet for 4K and 1.9 feet for 8K.
Ideal distance: 5.5 feet for maximum immersion.
Maximum distance for satisfactory immersion: 8.7 feet.
Close range without seeing the pixels: 3.2 feet for 4K and 1.6 feet for 8K.
Ideal distance: 4.3 feet for maximum immersion.
Maximum distance for satisfactory immersion: 6.8 feet.
Close range without seeing the pixels: 2.5 feet.
NOTE THAT BEING A LITTLE FURTHER OR CLOSER IS NOT DRAMATIC!
You will be satisfied as long as the television is of good quality.
You've measured your room and determined where you want to sit and watch, but that's not all.
There will be at least two other criteria to look for: HDR and refresh rate.
HDR
The resolution only tells you one thing, the number of dots used to sharpen the edges of the images produced. Let's say those dots are about as bright as each other, you won't see much, believe me! This is where the recent technology called HDR, HDR10+, comes in. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range 10 bit and relates to the contrast and intensity in the colours. A TV with this technology will give you a much sharper and more vivid picture, which will allow you to watch even more closely because there will be more to watch.
RAFRA RATEÎCHISSEMENT
The second criterion will be to require 120 Hz versus 60. A 60 hertz TV will refresh the picture sixty times a second while the other will clock in at 120. The more often the picture refreshes, the less blur there will be in action reproductions in games, sports and other high-speed activities.
Depending on your room, you can decide whether to place the TV on a piece of furniture, on the wall or even on the floor directly. One manufacturer even offers a TV that disguises itself as a painting-like frame when not in use!
Depending on the model you choose and the type of viewing, you may choose to enhance the sound quality to promote an unsurpassed ambience, or even better audibility. First, if you are looking for realistic listening, you should either buy a sound bar or opt for a better TV. We invite you to ask for a sound demonstration of the TV you want. You'll be surprised to hear a rich, well-balanced sound from a higher-end model compared to a lower-end model. It's night and day. The more expensive TV, in addition to offering a more realistic picture, will have a pleasant sound, while the Econo models will sound "grumpy".
However, if you mainly watch action films, you should opt for a sound bar to really be enveloped by the soundtrack. Even better, ask to see and hear a high-fidelity set (cinema sound system) to experience the atmosphere of the cinema at home. This will be the subject of a future column!
Any excuse will do, so why not take advantage of occasions such as the Olympics and major annual sporting events to treat yourself? With today's cinematic advances, a brand new TV is a guarantee of endless entertainment. Whether you're a fan of games, movies or sports on the screen, your home comfort bubble will only be enhanced. Gone are the dayswhen grandpa kept his TV TV until he died to replace it. Today's televisions are constantly and significantly developing as a technological product. Just like most things today, changing models brings its own share of wonder! Explore the idea of 8K as well, so you'll be ahead of the curve and have a current technology TV for years to come. Incidentally, YouTube is now broadcasting 8K and mainly nature documentaries. Having a big TV means seeing for real!
We wish each other proud medals from our athletes and as always, we invite you to... stay tuned!
The Wall 583 inches by Samsung!
SONXPLUS was among the first to offer the brand in Quebec, recognizing a long-awaited solution for the serious electronics enthusiast.
Sonos is one of the world's leading sound experience brands. As the inventor of multi-room wireless home audio, Sonos is also known for delivering an unparalleled sound experience, great aesthetics and design, ease of use, and a clear, user-friendly platform. Sonos is four visionary founders who have worked hard to succeed; but did you know that one of them went to university in MONTREAL and another worked for Apple? This is the exciting story of the rise of this modern legend.
It all started when a certain John Macfarlane, a computer engineer, sold his pioneering webmail software company (www.software.com) which he had founded in 1993. The sale went to Phone.com for $6.4 billion.
With so much money at his disposal, he and a partner from that first venture, Thomas Cullen, decided to team up with two other collaborators from the previous venture to come up with a revolutionary product based on their knowledge of computers and networks. Trung Mai and Craig Shelburne were thus an integral part of the original creative team.
The four founders have the following skills:
John Macfarlane : a computer engineer specialising in web-based networking.
Thomas Cullen: He became the vice president of sales and marketing. During his career, he has worked at Apple Computer, Software.com and Openwave Systems.
Trung mai: trained as an electrical and computer engineer and did part of his university studies in Montreal (1981-85) at McGill University.
Craig Shelburne: , a finance and legal specialist, set up the company's financial and legal functions. One of his tasks was to identify all the existing patents, but above all to patent every invention in the group, in order to ensure the company's continuity by providing watertight protection against copying by potential competitors.
So all the bases were covered! One guy trained in software, another in circuit and network design, a third looking after the grain (finance and rights protection) and finally a marketing expert. How to miss!
John was convinced that a system for distributing entertainment content from a single server on board an airliner would be something interesting, except that... the other three wanted nothing to do with the project!
After several months of brainstorming in the first office in Santa Barbara, California, the land of American genius, the joint decision would be to offer both the container and the content in mainstream music entertainment. They then drew up a first theoretical outline of what the network should look like in the household.
First Research Office 2002
With such a fortune to support a research and development team, you'd think it would be a short walk... Think again! We had to invent everything, nothing that we master today existed.
In early 2003, the engineering brigade set to work in a large open space above a restaurant. The first concept consisted of a system of amplifiers and satellite speakers, all linked by a network that would be based on a bank of files hosted on hard disk. All controlled from a tablet-style remote control.
Diagram of the concept drawn by John Macfarlane
The first steps involved a wired network linking together several small amplifiers designed on site by John Macfarlane. Then came the Mesh network derived from military applications. The Mesh principle allows different sources to communicate with each other without the need for a router to do the "traffic". The advantage of this approach is that by allowing each device to receive the same information and be able to send it back to others, we get a stable network without interruption from outside interference. But remember, apart from the military, this did not exist and the concept was not for relaxing and listening to music!
In September 2003, the prototypes were built, but they did not work. So the decision was made to test the devices under real conditions with team members and their families. One by one, they solved the problems, first the persistent ones, but then the intermittent "bugs" that remain the bane of any technician or engineer.
... By the summer of 2004, Sonos had finally solved the problems, prototypes were starting to work reliably, and the organisation was in the process of previewing the system to others in the industry. The persistence finally paid off...
After four years of research and sleepless nights trying to solve the problems of bringing a product to market that had no similar example, the young company decided to begin production in the fall of 2004 of an amp and speaker, the Zone Player 100 (predecessor of the Sonos Amp) and a wireless controller.
As an indication of what would one day be the Sonos trademark, i.e. perfection in detail, they had to destroy the first batch of product because the glue on the controller case wouldn't hold up...
Finally, new Sonos devices were on their way to the first buyers on January 27, 2005!

The rest is exciting and can be summarised as follows:
The iPhone was launched in 2007, replacing the Sonos controller with a mobile device. In 2008 the recession hit the US hard and the business slowdown was such that the founders had to pay out of their own pockets to keep the company and its employees going. Persevering through the turmoil allowed the release of a speaker with its own integrated amplifier, the Play 5, in November 2009, which was an instant success.
Now in 2021, Sonos is the world leader in connected audio equipment with an insurmountable lead over the competition. True to its initial decision to offer both content and container, Sonos gives you access to a variety of streaming devices such as Spotify, Deezer HI-FI, and more. What's more, this year Sonos became its own affordable content provider: "Sonos Radio HD" costs only $7.99 per month.
Let's talk about supply in 2021.
Sonos currently offers three main product families: Home stereo speakers, portable speakers for the outdoors, and the Dolby Atmos home theatre solution.
ONE SL
Launched in 2013 as the PLAY 1, this small, second-generation standalone speaker offers rich sound with bass that is frankly remarkable for the size. Add a second one and you get stereophonic musicality. It can be complemented with a Sonos SUB subwoofer, or used as a pair to complete the Sonos 5.1 Cinema sound.
It incorporates Apple AirPlay 2, which enables Siri voice control. In addition, it is moisture resistant, has Soft Touch buttons and a stain-resistant finish.
ONE
For a few dollars more, the full version of the ONE adds voice control capability to the SL. The Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa is designed to let you play music, check the news, set alarms, get answers to your questions, and more!
FIVE
FIVE is the brand's high-fidelity system. 6 speakers powered by 6 class-D amplifiers guarantee low distortion. The included TruePlay software analyses your room and configures the acoustics for the best possible technical performance. A quad-core processor and 512 MB of memory ensure maximum efficiency without interruption or hesitation. And let's not forget the continuous software updates. What is surprising about this product is the sound power, the depth of the bass without the need for a SUB and the clarity of the treble. It has a standard input for connecting various sources such as a TV or turntable.
AMP
The Sonos AMP is the original, modern version. If you want to get rid of a traditional sound system, but still retain the richness of your columns, this product is for you. However, its most common use remains the integration of ceiling speakers. The AMP has 250 watts of power to allow you to add sound to your rooms in a more discreet way. It also has a standard input for connecting different sources such as a TV or your turntable. I invite you to meet with a qualified consultant to discuss your projects, the possibilities being numerous...
PORT
The PORT is the easy way to upgrade your old sound system! Connect it to an audio input on the back of your traditional amplifier and voilà! Now you can control your music sources on the web from your tablet or mobile device, giving your stereo system a new look.
Long neglected, Sonos now offers Bluetooth solutions, it was worth the wait!
MOVE
The MOVE is an intermediate speaker between the compact ONE and the powerful FIVE. It incorporates voice control like the ONE and the TruePlay auto-tuning of the FIVE.
It is battery operated with a battery life of 11 hours and is weatherproof. What's more, you can use it anywhere, as it works with both WI-FI and Bluetooth. Of course, it has Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri built-in. To charge it, you just have to put it on its standard charging base, nothing could be easier!
ROAM
The ROAM fits in your hand and incorporates the same technologies as the MOVE. The sound, although less powerful, remains typically Sonos with a perfect balance between bass and treble. To charge it, simply place it on the optional inductive charging base without a contactor (a SONOS novelty!).
Completely renewed in 2021, the Sonos range of cinema products is very much of its time.
Both models of the 2021 soundbar incorporate the Dolby Atmos standard.
ARC
A successful sound bar requires several speakers, each with its own dedicated task to drive the ambient movement. Featuring eleven high-performance drivers for crisp highs, dynamic mids and surprising lows, the slim Arc profile can be wall-mounted or placed discreetly on a cabinet.
Very important in this day and age, this model is very aesthetically pleasing, definitely one of the most beautiful bars on the market...
Once again, no expense has been spared in incorporating 11 Class D amplifiers, one per speaker. The woofers are elliptical in shape for adequate performance in a smaller space. The True Play system 'listens' to the room's reverberation and adjusts the equalisation in real time. Of course, you can adjust the bass and treble presence. Google Assistant and Alexa voice commands respond well to the far-field microphone array, which uses advanced beamforming and multi-channel echo cancellation to make them easy to activate regardless of the frames being heard.
Full feature list :
BEAM
The new second generation Beam offers a compromise. Experience panoramic sound and crystal clear dialogue for shows, movies and games. And when the TV is off, play music and more from all your favourite services. Controlling it is as easy as ever with the Sonos app, voice control and Apple AirPlay 2.
While the output is less with its five speakers versus 11 for the more popular 'ARC', it is more compact and therefore easily moved around to be used as a stand-alone audio source similar to a ONE.
The new features of this second generation 2021 BEAM :
SUB SONOS
Already a3rd generation for 2021! The Sonos SUB is very well known, ask anyone you know who has one, they will tell you how clean the bass sounds are, with no artefacts or breath noise. The "box" simply does not reason!
The secret is two force-cancelling drivers in the centre of the SUB that eliminate vibrations and ill-defined rumble so you get powerful bass without any distortion. Remember, a subwoofer isn't just for movies; when listening to music, the benefit is real...
The control application makes your life easy.
What distinguishes Sonos products from others is the significant developmental advance in their control software. Believe me, they are not all equal, far from it!
Setting up a new Sonos system is a breeze, just plug in your new speakers, install the app on your mobile device, tablet PC or IOS system and in 4 easy steps you're set up!
In addition, some models allow you to calibrate the sound using the microphone of your tablets or mobiles.
The choice of music sources is without doubt the most complete on the market with dozens of suppliers offering millions of pieces of music!
Although the Sonos system can be set up via your home WI-FI router, I recommend purchasing the Boost module for greater stability in playback and response to your commands. Often, our customers complain about crashes due to the overload of their WI-FI router. The installation of a Boost is sure to resolve this situation. As a bonus, you will benefit from a longer range, often to an outdoor patio.
Although there is a plethora of content providers, 3 stand out as follows:
Deezer HI-FI (formerly Elite): The paid solution, but one that offers you unparalleled sound quality. Deezer broadcasts FLAC content which gives a performance equal to CD. You search for your song or your group and that's it. A real Jukebox!
Spotify: this service is similar to Deezer, but the music is broadcast in 320 kbs MP3. Note that the free version allows for 6 track changes at the user's discretion, which is impossible on most platforms in the free version.
Tidal: A service similar to Deezer, it offers music in lossless format, i.e. FLAC files. This service is not free.
It's a far cry from all-in-one sets with bulky wires or even traditional systems with massive speakers. Sonos has long understood that consumers want solid performance, but with a minimalist footprint. Both Sonos soundbars are definitely more compact than their competitors, but they deliver just as much or more if you include their web-based music playback capabilities. Sounding the whole house when the walls are already closed (the situation of all but the builders) is finally affordable for everyone. Many people build their systems within a year or two, adding one room at a time. Flexibility is what Sonos is all about!

This model offers the best of Samsung and probably the entire market.
To the Q-72 series, we add:
THE QLED NEO.
This is the new technology I was talking about at the beginning!
Samsung has achieved a tour de force by splitting the backlighting of the slab to get the deepest, most cut-out blacks, while controlling as much as possible the areas (now in the thousands) of lighting directly behind each dot.
In fact, the rear mini LEDs in direct position are 40 times smaller!
Two ranges are offered by series of 4K or 8K one with and the other without expert calibration at the factory. We'll talk about this below!
QN85 and QN90 4K series

I had planned on starting this new blog with a series of informational articles on hi-fi audio, but yesterday I attended a training session at Samsung and what I learned definitely needs to be shared right away!
We all know that the past year was a very challenging one. Despite a lot of negative things happening in the last 12 months, there has also been some positive that is worth noting.
A lot of us spent more time at home, and many of us decided to upgrade our home entertainment systems. This led to a huge bump in the sale of high-end TVs. Samsung, which has been the world’s leading manufacturer of TVs for the past 15 years, sold a record number of high-end TVs. With the money they made in 2020, they were able to massively invest in R&D.
Read on to discover what’s new and exciting in the world of home entertainment!
Here we go!
Reinventing the QLED: Neo QLED with Quantum Matrix Pro technology. Four series are leveraging the power of this cutting-edge technology: 8K with the QN800 and 900 and the new 4K QN85 and 90 series…
3 things you need to know about Neo QLED
Control lighting across 4,096 levels for night scenes with astonishing details. As an example: You’ll be able to see the bark of a tree even in a nighttime scene. In the photo above, you can see the sky and buildings in much greater detail.
3) Enhancing adaptive brightness
This new technology uses the energy available in dark zones to “transfer” it to a brighter area. For instance, you’ll be amazed at scenes featuring fireworks. The TV will save the energy it won’t send to the Mini LEDs in darkened areas and send it to the Mini LEDs that display the fireworks. The result is a much more realistic image.
The keyword for 2021: GEN3 AI – Artificial Intelligence
In 2019, Samsung integrated a real-time colour and brightness correction system into its TVs. This technology enables the device to compare the images of your favourites shows to thousands of images saved on a memory card to guide the “onboard computer” in your TV in selecting the right shades, levels of grey, contrasts, and much more! This year’s 8K models will all benefit from this cutting-edge tech.
The number of 8K models more than doubled in 2020, allowing Samsung to add this neural capacity to its 8K processor whereas 4K models were fitted with the AI processors used in the 2019 8K models.
What is Neural AI?
A: A TV set’s neural capacity allows its “brain” to analyze images without needing to be guided by comparing them with copies in its memory. The possibilities are nearly endless, only limited by the execution speed. The future is here!
This year’s 8K Samsung processor is built with 16 (yes sixteen!) neural processors!
The entire lineup of 2021 Neo QLED 4K models will include the AI neural system featured in the 2020 8K models.
Still with me? Good! I’m now going to go over what makes this neural processor so great.
When a device or loudspeaker reproduces music, the challenge is to reproduce the various aspects of that music as it is. Without these fine details, the emotion of the artist will simply not reach the listener...
To do this, the following should be monitored:
Frequency and harmonic.
Fundamental and harmonic frequencies of notes.
Sounds have two components that allow us to distinguish them, the fundamental and the harmonic.
The frequency fundamental is the frequency at which the note vibrates, which gives the tone that determines the position on the scale. L’harmonic, is the accessory component to the note that gives the instrument its distinctive tone. For example, when a musician plucks a bass guitar string, the drier sound that accompanies the note is made up of overtones. Without overtones, instruments would all sound the same and human voices would all sound the same...
Guitars of all kinds, various sounds.
Distortion is a deviation from the original. When a device creates distortion, it changes the sounds in such a way as to make them less true to the source. Sometimes this is hardly noticeable, while in more severe cases it is overtly unpleasant.
Two types of distortion are of concern to audiophiles, harmonic distortion, which affects the timbre by altering the harmonics, andintermodulation distortion, which causes the phonological units from low to high frequencies to influence each other, resulting in a confused sound.
Another challenge for the audiophile's equipment is to reproduce the music, and only the music.
Left to their own devices, electronic devices let through sound interference that sounds like hissing and buzzing. They are expressed in decibels and correspond to the level of amplification at which this residual noise starts to be heard.
A ratio of minus one hundred decibels (-100) will mean that at 100 decibels of sound power, residual noise begins to affect performance.
The higher the number, the better. Indeed, as well as being distracting, background noise will rob the amplifier of power and dynamism, as the amplifier works to push out these unwanted sounds in favour of the music itself.
In addition to timbre, music is dynamic; that is, it varies in amplitude constantly. In order to keep up with the fortissimo movements of the music, we need power reserves. This power is expressed in watts, which is a measure of the heat produced as a result of work; the greater the power released, the more heat or watts will be produced.
It is advisable to choose a more powerful device so that it can cope with the demand without being overloaded, which will lead to unwanted distortion.
Comfortable, uncompromising listening means hearing the softer passages loud enough to hear the more dynamic passages without restriction. To achieve this goal, 100 watts per channel is a good start.
Power will not tell the whole story, as the reserve capacity will vary from one amplifier to another. In order to make the right choice, it will be necessary to check the construction and amplification principles such as class "A", "B" or hybrids such as "D", etc.
Power indicators on meter view.
A good trick of the manufacturers is to present the high power of their devices as an absolute. In fact, the advertised power only matters if it occurs at low distortion. The same amplifier can deliver 80 watts with a very low distortion of 0.002% (sounds like 2 thousandths of 1 percent), but if you push it to 110 watts, it will do so, but with a huge 10% deviation (sounds like AM radio). The manufacturer who advertises his products with a high power rating without worrying about the level of distortion is doing his customers a disservice...
What good is strong if it's not beautiful?
In the jargon of electronics, we are told that this or that is "per channel"; we are actually talking about the left and right channels for music listening.
Stereophonic sound, more commonly known as stereo, is a method of reproduction that allows for spatial effect.
A sound effect that aims to reconstitute the spatial distribution of the original sources.
Under ideal conditions, the listener hears sounds as if they were in nature or as if they were in front of the orchestra at a concert. The accuracy of the sound rendering has a great influence, as it is what makes it possible to distinguish between what comes from the left or the right and from the front to the back.
The dampingfactorof an amplifier is a value that is more rarely disclosed by manufacturers and, generally, only at the high end of the market. When an amplifier induces a speaker to react, the speaker physically resists the required movement. This resistance will return an opposite effect to the amp via its electrical wiring, so the quality will be impaired. The loudspeaker membrane will not follow the required movements and fidelity will be lost. A high damping factor will guarantee a better control of the loudspeaker, which will have to follow faithfully the movement requested.
To put it plainly, depending on taste, some people prefer to pay attention to the bass to physically feel its effects, while others prefer the mediums that include the human voice, as well as the majority of instrumental sounds. For others, it will be to hear with distinction the high-pitched sounds such as the twinkling of cymbals and other fine percussion.
The devices generally allow this to be adjusted, although more and more people prefer to listen as is, without alterations.
Good equipment and loudspeakers should maintain the integrity of the music being reproduced. Depending on one's personal taste, the musical expression of the artist should be the choice, not the propensity for overkill of the equipment.

The first projector I ever saw was a behemoth!
The first projectors to hit the market had to deal with myriad constraints and were too expensive for most people. As if that wasn’t enough, these first projectors also needed to be installed in a room that could become completely dark. They measured about a square foot (36 inches by 36 inches) and required fine tuning to make sure they projected a balanced, sharp imaged. The three light bulbs that lit up the 3 lenses, each in a primary colour (red, blue, green) had a lifespan of only a few hundred hours. Obviously, using these projectors to watch TV every day was out of the question…
The projector improved over the years but was always designed to only be used occasionally. The three light bulbs were replaced by one single bulb with an increased lifespan of thousands of hours. This was much better but still meant the light and lenses needed to be replaced every year or two, making it a costly device.
Personally, I hated these projectors. Even though the image was pretty big, it was dark and lifeless. The projector also needed to be installed on the ceiling with its cables going through the walls. The lens also had to be readjusted after every slight tremor and worst of all, dust accumulated on the internal lens.
But now thanks to Samsung’s laser technology, this is all history. No longer do we have to deal with all the above-mentioned flaws. Technology has come a long way, and that’s a glorious thing.
GO!
An awful 1980s projector…
Enjoy a high-tech projector that’s more versatile than a conventional TV
With its The Premiere range, Samsung has designed ultra short throw laser projectors that you can place close to a wall for an easy set up. And that’s just for starters. It’s so compact and light, that it’s a breeze to put away when not in use. No more ceiling-mounted atrocities.
These days, projectors even come equipped with a good sound system. And with 20,000 hours of brilliant luminescence, you can watch your shows as if you were watching a big-screen TV!
Furthermore, to keep up with modern times, every app available on smart TVs are included, such as online search tools, YouTube, and yes, Netflix. You can’t get more “home theatre” than that. Simply pick a movie, get comfortable on your couch, and watch the action take place on a 130-inch screen in your home!
Even though it is preferable to have a screen, the luminosity is so brilliant that you don’t need to be in a completely dark room to get the most out of your projector. You just need some thick curtains and you’re good to go.
The LSP9T model is portable and compact
Laser technology is the key!
With a laser light source, and even a three-laser light source on the high-end Samsung Premiere 9, you’ll see every image in a 4K ultra-HD resolution. Every pixel is reproduced on your screen with surgical precision. The motions are seamless because the laser depicts the action at high speed!
From a technology standpoint, the DCI-P3 color gamut standard is 83% accurate with the LSP7T laser and 106% for the LSP9T with triple lasers, which reproduces an extremely accurate image. In terms of luminosity, The Premiere projectors have a 2,200 and 2,800 lumens brightness. This is equal to an average-sized non QLED conventional TV.
Circuits and features that can be found on the best TVs
Samsung’s The Premiere projectors use HDR10+ standard which allows the same dynamic ratio as brand-name TVs but on a projector. HDR means High Dynamic Range. This is the standard that means the projector delivers a much more focused and intense image, including for video games.
Thanks to the classic Samsung TV remote, you’ll have access to all the Smart functions and apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Prime TV, Samsung TV Plus, and the list goes on and on! You can even search on Google or work on your files with Office 365 cloud. There’s almost nothing a projector can’t do that a smart TV can. And the lifespan is similar!
Voice-controlled projector
Just another way these new-generation projectors have nearly nothing to do with those of the past: The Premiere features the Alexa assistant with a French Quebec voice option as well as Bixby. You can configure your settings vocally, activate other connected devices in your home, and search for streaming content. And of course, they’ll respond to you because these projectors have speakers !
Multiple apps and voice command
You no longer need an “Apple TV”. With integrated AirPlay 2, you can easily watch movies, shows, listen to music, and look at photos from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac directly on The Premiere.
Owners of non-Apple connected devices, such as Android, can also display their content
Displaying your smartphone content only takes a moment. Tap on The Premiere on your phone and it will automatically mirror what you are watching or listening to.
Game mode
It’s a bit odd for me to be speaking about game mode, but here we are!
Once you turn on your console, the screen automatically optimizes its display for a smooth, bright image just like you’d get on a 55-inch TV but on a 130-inch image!
And because the projector has its own speakers, you’re all set to go once you turn it on!
In addition to its myriad technologies that elevate The Premiere’s performance, Filmmaker mode is similar to THX mode, which was created by George Lucas’ company Lucasfilm. Mr. Lucas implemented a color gamut standard for his Star Wars films. This standard would become the benchmark of modern cinematography. Today, modern smart technologies have no problem complying with these standards.
Because The Premiere includes Filmmaker Mode, viewers can enjoy an authentic cinematographic experience, in ideal conditions, that is true to the director’s vision. The image reproduced is just the way the cinematographer and their team intended it to be. Filmmaker Mode is actually the fruit of a partnership between Samsung, UHD Alliance, and Hollywood studios, supported by renowned directors such as Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Paul Thomas Anderson, Ang Lee, Ava DuVernay, JJ Abrams, M. Night Shyamalan, and Ryan Coogler. Unlike THX, Filmmaker Mode is unanimously supported.
Because it can seem like a complex process, most people don’t want to mess with their TV’s settings, which are never approved by everyone in the household anyway, so it’s simply easier to leave the TV alone!
Calibrating a TV or projector to obtain a “cinema” image is not always easy and requires a bit of technical know-how.
But with Filmmaker Mode, you don’t need to do anything. Simply watch a film with the encoded data and The Premiere projector takes care of the calibrations required for each scene (dark, quick, high contrast, etc.).
Filmmaker Mode automatically takes care of the following:

A modern, sleek design
I love that this product is nice and discreet. Its rounded edges and white colour don’t clash with my décor. And it features its own sound system that is on par with high-end soundbars thanks to an acoustic beam that uses 22 holes to distribute a deep, rich audio for an immersive experience.
Projected sound audio system
The Premiere has 40W of 4.2.2ch audio and a built-in subwoofer as well as a Dolby Digital Plus processor. All meaning that the sound is adaptive and adjusted for clear dialogues.
It also turns on instantaneously which is in contrast to older models which took a minute or two to get going…
Just like other Samsung remotes, the projector’s remote enables you to control all your peripherals.
Finally, Bluetooth mode will allow you to watch movies through your headphones.
In brief
As always, my goal is not to push one technology over another, but simply to help people learn about new trends in the industry. For the past decade, the world of electronics has been evolving at a furious pace. The results have been simply outstanding. Devices such as these shouldn’t be considered improvements. They are now touchstones of an entire class of products.
As for the price, keep in mind that an 85-inch TV can cost more than $5,000, even up to $8,000 for an 8K. The Premiere starts at $4,999 which isn’t too bad.
This is the final article on Samsung’s specialty TV products.
Stay tuned!
